Real Madrid have announced the re-signing of striker Mariano Diaz from Lyon.

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract deal just 12 months after leaving the Bernabeu for Ligue 1.

Mariano scored 21 goals in 48 appearances for Lyon in all competitions last season.

And he rejoins Real Madrid as the only major attacking signing to replace Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Juventus this summer.

Mariano, who first joined Real in 2011, will be vying with Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Isco for a placein Lopetegui’s attack.

And he will be presented in the Bernabeu presidential box on Thursday at 12.30pm(BST).

Mariano is set to be paraded on the pitch before returning inside for his first press conference.

Real have not commented on the figures involved, but a Lyon club statement said the deal was worth about €33 million (£29.66million).
