WE HAVE REMAINED FOCUSED ON WHAT WE CAME TO DO- AE-FUNAI VC
The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba says his administration has remained focused on its vision of turning the university into one of the most sought-after institutions in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor made this known recently during a workshop organized by the Center for Development Assistance Management, Partnership and Training (CEDAMPAT) for the newly appointed Heads of Academic Departments in preparedness for the commencement of the 2018/2019 academic session. He also used to opportunity to highlight some of the landmark achievements of his administration and his vision for future as he enters the 2nd half of his tenure.

“We have remained focused on what we came here to do. We initiated the Language Enhancement Programme as a way to bring back basic skills on how to read and write in order to have people with the capacity for logical thinking”, he said.
He maintained that the University must justify the reason for its establishment, adding that the institution was in a period where its character was been defined, and called on the departmental heads to think-out-of-the-box, as they were the fulcrum of the university, for them to make a difference in their various capacities.

The Vice-Chancellor further used the opportunity to thank the staff of the University for their Sacrifices since he assumed office in 2016, promising them better days ahead. He however, noted that the University was not going to lower its academic standard to accommodate anyone, charging staff and students to breast up to the new realities in the University. He equally advised them to imbibe positive work attitude, and to be result-oriented and knowledgeable in the discharge of their official responsibilities. He also insisted that quality teaching and research activities must be maintained at all times in order to turn-out globally-competitive graduates.
Earlier in his opening remarks at the conference, the Director, Centre for Development Assistance Management, Partnership & Training (CEDAMPAT), Mr. Chris Uwadoka, stressed the need for Heads of Academic Departments to be properly educated on their responsibilities, as they were key participants in the production of graduates who would compete in the global market. He noted that the conference was to address the challenges and setbacks facing universities.
He also commended the Vice-Chancellor Professor, Chinedum Nwajiuba for his relentless effort towards the growth and development of the university in the last two and a half years.
He said: “It is exactly two years and a half you set foot in this university and you vowed to recreate the university into a modern and standard school of learning from the condition you met it and truly you have. I say a big thank you to you sir.”

Other speakers at the event include, Dr. Nnenna Nwosu-Nworuh who presented a paper on, “Being Head of Department: Challenges and Lessons Learnt”, Director, Centre for Internationalization, Professor Afam Icha-Ituma who talked on, “Internationalization and Branding of Academic Department”, Director for Academic Planning Professor Dr. Johnny Ogunji who presented a paper with Dr. Lawrence Ogugua on, “Design and Implementation of Departmental Quality Assurance Systems” and Professor Philip Omoke who espoused the topic, “Exemplary Team leadership and Management.”
