The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) on Monday in Abuja urged its campaign committee to do everything within the law to win the Sept. 22 governorship election in Osun.

National Chairman of the party, Mr Uche Secondus, gave the charge when he inaugurated the party’s National Campaign Committee for the election.

The committee has President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, as chairman.

Secondus said that members of the committee were carefully nominated because of the importance of Osun to the PDP.

He said that PDP believed that its candidate was the best for the state, and assured that it would not allow itself to be rigged out in the election.

“We will not allow vote-buying in Osun because that is rigging and rigging is corruption.

“I believe that the international community is watching and all eyes are on this nation,’’ he said.

Secondus advised security agencies not to allow themselves to be used, reminding them that they had sworn to uphold the Constitution, not an individual or politician.

He urged them to be loyal to Nigerians, the Constitution and the electoral process and law.

He also called on all stakeholders to rise and condemn rigging, vote-buying and intimidation in elections by security agencies.

Secondus said that the committee had the responsibility to augment all activities of campaign and reach out to all the critical stakeholders.

“It should mobilise all our people in all the local government areas of Osun, and to do everything necessary within the law for us to win the state.’’

In his response, Saraki promised that the committee would ensure that the PDP wins the Osun poll.

He said that the election was important because PDP had lost two governorship elections in the South-West – Ekiti and Ondo.

“We must win Osun to prove that Osun is the home ground of the PDP. This is a state where salaries are not being paid,’’ he said.

Saraki said that winning the Osun poll was not just about the state but to also serve as a momentum for the 2019 general elections.

He expressed hope that President Muhammadu Buhari would live up to his promise to world leaders that the 2019 elections would be free and fair.

According to him, the issue of free and fair elections is important as Nigeria’s reputation was at stake, with the crude use of force by security agencies during elections.

As we speak, workers of the following Osun institutions are on strike:

1)Osun State Poly,Iree.

2)Osun State College of Tech.,Esa-Oke.

3)Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.

4)Osun State College of Education, Ilesha.

The workers are demanding for payment of their 34 months salary and remittance of their contributory pension to PFAs.

Ilesha and Osogbo, the seat of power,are traditionally APC strongholds and these towns have enjoyed a lot of physical infrastructure done by Aregbe govt.But what could have been the gains of the party in the two towns would be made mess of by the wicked non-payment of workers salary;particularly when the electorate are now aware of the alleged plan of Oyetola to sack workers on the excuse of paucity of funds.

Osun workers are also going to vote against Oyetola because they are aware he is the one behind all the anti-welfarist policies of the current govt.Oyetola has been fingered to be the brain behind the reintroduction of school fees in Osun schools, stoppage of bursary allowance to Osun indigenes in tertiary institutions and plan to privatise all the tertiary institutions in the state.
There is need for #Freshair in Osun State.No to #Continuity of Half-salary and non-payment of student bursary.

You see, vote buying and the noisy atmosphere generated by Ekiti election happened because of the political actors, mainly Fayose.
The APC responded to Fayose's stomach infrastructure and vote buying tactics by coming up with "See and buy" to counter Fayose.

We didn't hear much of this in Anambra, Ondo and Edo. Same thing will happen in Osun.

Fayose and Wike are the reasons for vote buying and killings in Ekiti and Rivers respectively, which caused the opposition to respond in similar fashions.

Regarding Osun election, the opposition are too disunited and will split their votes giving the APC an easy victory.

Why are people always not honest about governance. As much as I hate aregbesola, he has no right to owe a dime of workers salary; but the truth of d situation in osun should be told. Aregbe does not owe 75% of d civil service a dime- which are the junior officers( up to level 8 ), he pays middle officers 75% of their salary- that's like to level 12&13 and he pays 50% of the senior officers salary- thats level 14 and above(the principals etc). anyone with proof otherwise should talk.

That settled, I would have preferred PDP to win because of aregbesolas arrogance, but they goofed by rigging the primaries and declaring the loser as winner. They peddled a rumor that the guy was sponsored by tinubu which was laughable, but they decided to chose a sectional leader who will win only ede and his senate constituency.

This election is for the whole state and you know where the majority of votes come from. His senatorial zone is d least populated and developed. He might garner votes in IFE too cos aregbe has neglected them for voting opposition, but IFE will likely give omisore of sdp their votes. Ilesha, osogbo, ikirun and other major towns would be block votes for APC.
