Both male and female need to enter into deliberation and negotiation to solve gender problems. We need to recognise the aberrations that have perverted gender equity to enable us move forward. We must note that we need to be patient with one another, with extremists in a hurry to ‘’challenge’’ rather ‘’change’’ behaviour, with inclination to ‘’ respond- slowly- to-change’’ among the men folk because of inertia.
It has been insinuated that ‘’women’s issues cannot be fought for by men’’ and that ‘’men’s issues are being neglected. All gender issues, if seen as issues of development cannot be separated into women’s issues and men’s issues. Once women regard an issue as their own, it remains their own. Then of course they (women) negate men’s contribution to it. Since it is not men’s issue as well. This is a vicious circle in which we (men and women) deal with gender issues half heartedly.
