A lot of things have happened in Nigeria in 2018, both good and bad. The sad events did not happen to everyone directly, but they indeed had first-hand impacts on some others. From the killings to the tanker explosion on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos, a lot of bad things have happened in Nigeria in 2018.

Today is Sunday, and this post is focused on some of the sad events in Nigeria that happened on Sundays in 2018. It's quite a sad trip down memory lane.

1. Sunday, 25th March 2018 - Several people killed by herdsmen in Guma LGA, Benue State

On Sunday, 25th March 2018, suspected herdsmen blocked the Daudu-Gbajimba Road at Tse Torkpande. They killed several persons in Guma LGA of Benue State. This was all over the news the following day, 26th March 2018.

2. Sunday, 25th March 2018 - CAN Chairman crushed to death by truck

On the same day, Sunday, 25th March 2018, there was yet another sad event. It was a particularly sad day for Christians in Nigeria following the tragic death of Rev. Ben Ubeh, the Taraba State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Rev. Ubeh was crushed to death by a truck transporting sugar along Jalingo-Yola Expressway.

3. Sunday, 17th June 2018 - Super Eagles of Nigeria Lose To Croatia

Sunday, 17th June 2018 was a sad day for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as well as their fans, after the Eagles lost their opening match of the 2018 World Cup to Croatia. Football is an emotional game, and this 2-0 defeat to the Vatreni of Croatia caused a lot of heartbreak among Nigerians. Nigerians went on to beat Iceland in their next fixture but ultimately got disqualified in the group stages after losing the final match to Argentina.

4. Sunday, 24th June 2018 - Herdsmen kill over 200 in Plateau State

One week after the Super Eagles lost to Croatia, there was another sad event, albeit one that claimed over 200 lives. It was indeed a very sad day for residents of Plateau State. There was a deadly clash between farmers and herdsmen in the state, and a lot of lives were lost. The initial estimate was 86 but international media later reported it to be over 200. The President and Vice President travelled to Plateau later in the week to sympathise with the people.

5. Sunday, 24th June 2018 - D'banj loses son in swimming pool accident

On the same day the clash between farmers and herdsmen took place in Plateau, popular Nigerian music star, D'banj, lost his only son, Daniel, in a swimming pool accident. The 13-month-old boy drowned in the swimming pool in D'banj's home. It was indeed a sad event, and thousands of Nigerians took to social media to console the music star. None of the condolence messages could bring Daniel back though.
