Nigerian Hip-hop Acts Fail To Make Forbes' 2018 World's Highest-paid List by Eggcelent(m): 5:41pm On Sep 12, 2018 |
Hip-hop acts in Nigeria will need to step up their game, as they are missing from the 2018 list of highest paid hip-hop acts of 2018 by Forbes. The list, which was released on Wednesday, on Forbes website saw hip-hop legend, Jay Z, sitting comfortably in the first spot with a fortune worth $76.5 million. Jay Z knocked off Diddy, who had topped the list for three years in a row. However, Nigerian hip hop acts like Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, and Tekno were conspicuously missing from the list. See the full list below: 1. Jay Z $76.5 million 2. Diddy $64 million 3. Kendrick Lamar $58 million 4. Drake $47m million 5. J. Cole $35.5 million 6. Dr. Dre $35 million 7. Nas $35 million 8. Pitbull $32 million 9. Future $30 million 10. Kanye $27.5 million 11. DJ Khaled $27 million 12. Migos $24.5 million 13. Eminem $23 million 14. Chance the rapper $21.5 million 15. Is this a joke ? These international acts earn in dollars your artists earn in naira and convert to dollar how can you even start to compare ? The things one reads here sometimes Off course some like the one called wiz earns in dollars but that is negligible income Dollar earnings is the ace in the global economy See Nas who has disappeared from music for a while drops an album and next thing you know he is earning huge revenues While I can bet if you calculate all these Nigerian artists earned all through 2018 then convert it to dollars it won't even get up to $3 million The naira is dead |

Eggcelent: You must be drunk to make this statement. Keep reading all those your useless blogs & Nigerian websites that tell you Wizkid is worth billions of Naira etc. This list is reality staring at you in the face. The lowest person on that list is $15m = N5.4bn approx. yet Wizkid & Davido didn't make the list. Didn't Davido claim to make N30billion (= $83m) at his concert early this year? Why isn't he on this list? Just yesterday, I still read someone saying Wizkid made millions of dollars from his StarBoy shirt sales. As if he doesn't have a management coy + Nike who takes the lion share & leaves him with peanuts. Don't be surprised if he's paid a one-off fee for his trademark & that's it instead of a percentage of sales. Wizkid still pays rent in Lagos. Let this fact sink in. Keep swallowing lies. Gullible indomie kids. |
