While serving in Zamfara 2016, i observed the following reasons why security is a very big challenge in the Northern part of Nigeria;
*there is scattered settlement - you can travel from one village with less than 20 houses to another for 2 hours without setting your eyes on another village.Remember,their land is as flat as our roads making it very easy for any gangs to operate at ease and flew into thin air.
*lack of jobs - these people are so backward(my apology) that as big as my local govt is,there is no bank,no company,sachet water factory is from the city thereby making us to buy in bulk because we don't know when next they will be coming.Their major source of livelihood is local mining which they have to travel to miles away thereby making them vulnerable to bandits.
It is just so pathetic.
