WHO IS SPECIAL?
Special (Specialist or Lechi), real name Shiloh Godson, is a music producer, mixing engineer, song writer and Biochemist. The fourth child of a family of seven; he started playing drums for events at just six years. "I first played drums at the age of five, A drummer carried me on his laps because I was quite small then, and he would handle the kick while I would play the rest, two years later I was asked to play for a church and I did good, I practiced a lot and everyone thought drumming would be my calling (laughs).
"I also taught myself to play the piano, I learnt how to hold chords first with my left hand. I remember the surprise in my brother's face when he saw me playing piano, I learnt differently which is why my production is a lot different.
" I also taught myself guitars and production. It was just a matter of reading the basics and spending time with the tools.....I had some mixing lessons with Andrew Schepps via La'Fabrique MWTM, which was important. And I use most Daw including Fl, Cubase, Ozone, Sonar, Logic and so on, but my preferred is protools obviously. I enjoy consoles, I do a lot itb as well."
Judging by his broad grin, he's proud of his skills.
He started production during his time at Abuja the capital of Nigeria
He's served as the music producer for Lake bridge Entertainment, Shimmag Records, Smart Don Entertainment and several studios inbetween.
He recalls his time at some Port Harcourt(Nigerian) based studios fondly, "I had some good time at Smart Don Entertainment, there were some wonderful acts like Spark Td, Paul; there were some from my other studios like Discovery Studios act Kaydee14. In all these were wonderful experiences. "
Special says he prefers to produce his song beats himself, reasons being " I usually have a vivid mental progression of the structure of my songs", he goes on to say " I've struggled to get some producers to create something better or similar, I'm pretty good at mixing but I prefer having other mixing engineers do the final mixing or mastering."
