TJCONNECTNG.COM WRITES…
As the state of Osun governorship elections draws closer, political actors and gladiators across the state have swung into actions to ensure their party wins the gubernatorial seat come September 22.
The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) picked the Chief of Staff to the present Governor Rauf Aregbesola as his successor while Senator Ademola Adeleke will fly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag.
No forgetting a strong hold in Osun Senator Iyiola Omisore who has been contesting for the state governor under the PDP but decamped recently to Social Democratic Party (SDP) where he got the party’s ticket as he is set to lock horns with Oyetola and Adeleke for the governorship seat.
As the heat of the election gets tougher, secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, withdraw from the APC’s primary and resigned his membership of the party to pick the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Be that as it may, Political observers in the state have concluded that the tussle for the state governor is between Oyetola, Adeleke and Omisore.
The candidates hail from the three senatorial districts in the state making it a tough battle as its candidate needs to win their district for any chance of winning the election. Oyetola (Osun Central), Adeleke (Osun West) and Omisore (Osun East).
The individual strength and political parties influence will also go a long way in determining winner of the elction, APC being the ruling party, is considered to be the strongest in the 30 local government areas.
Oyetola is believed to be the engine room of the policy thrust of the Aregbesola’s administration and is set to continue the work of the Governor. In some quarters the governor, is well rated in the areas of health, education, road construction, agricultural upliftment and civil service reforms, among others.
Others believed that the Governor embarked on the mass project at the detriment of the state financial status leaving it in a state of debt which affected the civil servant salaries whom were unpaid for two years.
Otetola’s major opposition Adeleke, is from a political family with mass followership and also a current senator who is running on the strength of calls for power shift power to Osun West, he was not a politician until the death of his elder brother late Senator Isiaka Adeleke who was a Governor in the Third Republic.
Ademola gained public acceptant from EDE where he hailed after the death Isiaka as he was called to take over the senatorial post of his elder brother which he won under the PDP where he is now contesting as a Governor.
The Adeleke’s having built a strong political dynasty made Ademola favorite from his zone, though winning the primary almost broke the party after his co-contester Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, believed he should have won insisting it was rigged but the national leader of the party Dr Bukola Saraki came into the state and settled the rift.
One major threat for Adeleke is his educational qualifications which has been a major concern, The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Bwari, Abuja on septemper 13 2018, orders WAEC to produce Adeleke’s results in five days else he may not be allowed to participate in the election.
The controversy is that he may have not participated in May/June 1981 WAEC he claimed to have written, despite the threat, he has continue his campaign.
Meanwhile, THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) has promised to respond adequately to a court order mandating it to confirm whether Ademola Adeleke, Osun State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate wrote the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1981.
No doubt, Adeleke is hugely popular in Osun West, especially in his Ede hometown. Moreover, he also has the means to prosecute an electoral battle.
Omisore, on his part, is definitely a big politician in Osun with vast supporters in Osun East, which he once represented at the Senate.
Being a former PDP and decamping to SDP might not guarantee that all his supports move with him to his new party which may weaken his political strength.
Some voters in the state are believed to be unwilling to having anything to do with him, no matter his party due to the stigma attached to his name that he was one of those who killed one of Nigeria foremost activist and lawyer Bola Ige.
With a depleted support base and weak party structure, Omisore’s quest to govern may remain a mirage else he has strategies a better way of winning.
Speaking with resident of the state who pleaded anonymity, he said “Having contestant from the three zones is going to make it a tough battle, looking at it from the area of incumbency, APC may emerge. But taking that out omisore has an edge even more than Adeleke”.
Another resident Kabeer Leadsman Oloyede who spoke with The Difference reporter, said “The opposition formerly as it was in Osun State, the Grand PDP(better put) could have sunk the ruling APC to the lowest ever. But since they have been polarised, into ADC with Fatai Akinbade, SDP with Iyiola Omisore and the Grand PDP of Ademola Adeleke, they have readily paved way for the ruling APC coupled with its power of incumbency. Considering the current atmosphere in OSUN, APC has the best blend to return”.
A resident who identifies himself as Abdul Hameed Adeshina Ayomide who spoke on the alleged non payment of salary by Gov Rauf Aregbesoal said “That's nothing but a blatant lies and its must be corrected. The federal just disbursed Paris fund to states in other for them to clear workers salary, so Osun state must not be exceptional. Well I'm not aware of the payment of workers salary. I was just been informed that my principal Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola will clear four months salary and arrears and also payment of workers salary, ”.
On who will emerged winner in the forthcoming election, Adeshina said “Osun people will determine who they want to be their governor for another four years. But I'm very sure Osun citizens will not be an ingrate, they've enjoyed good governance under Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration, so they will go for continuity which means A.P.C will be victorious come next week Saturday.
I'm very sure that Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of All progressive congress will succeed Rauf Aregbesola in November 27 this year”
TJCONNECT.COM also spoke a political analyst pastor Olanihun Zechariah who gave a break down of the election said if the election was free and fair, the rulling party. APC will loose the election, stating his reaaon he said "Osun central senator Hon. lasun yusuff, deputy speaker, an APC member has not been seen as Gboyega Oyetola campaign and he has clearly stated that he will not be supporting him but he will also not leave the party.
He futher said the sitting Governor was able to win his second term with the help of Oshogbo vote which was delivered to him by Alhaji Fatai Diekola, alhaji Moshood adeoti, and Hon Sunday akere, former Com of information who have all dumped the party.
His words: "Alhaji Diekola is now a member of PDP Alhaji Moshood is also a member of ADC and Hon Sunday is now a member of ADP and these people were Aregbsola's back bone is Oshogbo where he always gets his votes to win election. PDP candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke has a strong hold in EDE just like Iyiola Omisore owns IFE these two people will now have to take some of Oshogbo's Vote which may make either of them emerge winner".
On using military or federal power in the election, pastor Zechariah said "let me tell you, General Olusegun Obasanjo was recently in the state to campaign for ADC African Democratic Party and PDP also have a retired General as well, David Mark just like the APC have RTd General Muhammadu Buhari, making it a balance equation, three Generals from different party will make them do away with military force and allow free election".
"Let me also state this, I was at Election Evaluation Centre recently and we were told that they will not be any form of federal interference in the election".
He added that " as it stands Sebator Adeleke is on the hedege of winning, Senate President Bukola Saraki and 75 man delegates will be storming the state on 19th for a mega rally and the 30 billion gang led by Davido will be coming in for a campaign for PDP, let me confirm to you most hotels in the state have been booked as many are eager to watch Davido perform but should Adeleke fail to win, Omisore is the other option for people of the state who have turned their back on Gov. Aregbesola".
As the day gets closer, Osun state is lightened up by the aspirants as campaigns have taken over the state, come September 22, electorate will head to the voting polls to decide who the cap fit.
