Have anyone owned a Rottweiler before for security only to find out that the one you bought is too friendly, playful and lazy?
Because I was surprised when somebody said he has seen alot of non performing rotts. I have never seen a non performing rott before.

What about you, have you?

I have never own a rott but about 8years back while I was in Primary5 or so I could remember having contact with a rott weiler dog though can't guess the age she was as at that time, her name was "Rihanna" I guess it was bought for security purposes buh this dog would see us and start jumping on us and trying to lick me at times not even being security conscious... I could remember playing madly with the dog, even sonetimes pretending to mount Rihanna like a horse buh still all she would do was run a distance and then come back again and start feeling happy grin wink but as for being security alert it's 4% cos strangers do come to the compound and she won't bark.... Sorry for the stories jare grin they're for the gods

And you are sure its a purebred? Did they oversocialize the dog from puppyhood to adulthood?

it was imported, the man was madly rich and had almost all top breeds including one that looks like Lion though I don't know the breed of dat one.... so I don't think he would import a rott wiler that is not pure....

No! The dog wasn't too socialized but maybe being playful was it's nature.

In many instances I've got to find out that local dogs are more security conscious abi it's just the craziness in their blood... Almost all the local dogs I come across do bark madly at me and some even chase me even though I try to avoid them, I fear local dogs than foreign breeds ooo.... The only thing about foreign breeds is that they are bigger

Hmmn... I don't so much agree with ur view about foreign breeds.
Also note that a dog is whatever you make him to be.

One thing unique about a Rott breed is their fearless nature. They don't bark and stay but bark and attack. Rott are not as dog aggressive as Mastiff but are kids aggressive. This I noticed with my Rott. I couldn't trust her with my nephew.

Now talking about a Rott not being aggressive is very possible. A dog is what you make it to be. And there is a difference between an aggressive dog and a guard dog.

I have come across several descriptions about Rotts, with the bolded part. I have not seen an overly friendly Rott before now, but I don't doubt the possibility, cos I have seeb a massive Cauc that is half as ferocious as a lap dog..... He was too docile and can't even attack a cockroach. Those types will befriend a burglar.
But I love Rotts more, cos other their Stern looks, and the mahogany markings. I am crazily in love with the mahogany dots close to the eyes.

When I say not as dog aggressive as Mastiff, I mean they have higher tendencies of welcoming other breeds than mastiffs. Aggression are of various form. We have territorial aggression, food aggression, anxiety or fear aggression and also dog aggression.
Rotty are know to be territorial, food agressive sometimes anxiety aggressive and for dog aggression, Rott prefers taking charge of his domain and considers other dogs not a threat as long as they understand boundaries but can a ferocious towards them if deprived in a cage while they stroll into his territory. Petty might not consider a lap dog as a threat as long as they understand boundaries. Unlike untrained mastiff who looks for the right right to kill a Lhasa or Eskimo who aren't even threat to his park leadership.

The Rottweiler can show a natural guarding instinct to protect his home and family, it is part of his genetic history. It has a good prey drive. Bark when necessary and fearless when attacking. Unfortunately, the strength and power of this breed can make him potentially dangerous when put into the hands of an irresponsible or confused dog owner.
Let's don't always forget you make a dog become what it is.

Anytime you are going to feed them, you should chain them and feed them seperately, that's how I do with my own dogs but you shouldn't have killed your dog.

Mine is about 6months old so it's a bit early to make a final judgement, but from the little time he has spent with us, he is over playful, too friendly, eats like a hog and _shits like an elephant.

The day he ran out of the compound, he flattened his ears and playfully began chasing the first person he laid his eyes own. This is a dog the size of a full grown nanny goat.

Rottweiler indeed

You're very correct. There were some fearless, gigantic rats attempting to build skyscrapers in our compound. They were digging holes everywhere, but when Gift joined the family, the rats and the holes have disappeared.

no dog can ever kill me.
Again, the fact that your Caucasian killed your other dog doesn't mean that it can attack you or any member of your family.
Dogs are sometimes dog aggressive but doesn't move a bit to being human aggressive most especially when you're it's lord... How do you expect a dog that you raised to kill you sir Lols na fear fear just dey do you... It was just tryna be protective and kinda seeing the other dog as rival made it strike.

Hope you got another dog already Next time you think your dog is aggressive, just can on me I'll adopt him/her and you'll see how fine he/she'd live in my custody.

you better start chaining or caging that dog, if not he is only going to get friendlier which will make him completely naive.
