ESPN yapping GJ and Nigeria - Good luck Jonathan. You'll need it

Good luck Jonathan. You'll need it

Interesting to watch how various nations across the globe have dealt with their demise at the World Cup. The beauty of such a tournament means there are 31 potential sackings or resignations to watch, and 31 separate inquests to pore over. That's more than a Premier League and a half's worth. By my reckoning there have now been nine managerial departures, with the promise of more to come.

Otto Rehhagel quit Greece and Takeshi Okada stood down after the 'have a go Henry' brigade, quite rightly, criticised their defensive tactics. Sven's short-term contract saw him trouser another exorbitant fee for failure, Paul Le Guen stood down after claiming he couldn't "unify" the team - funny what happens when you play one of Africa's best strikers on the wing eh? Javier Aguirre quit Mexico, Marcello Lippi resigned having lead Italy from the World Cup to the wooden spoon, while Raymond Domenech called it time with France about four years too late.

But of all the reactions, Nigeria's has been the funniest. In the aftermath of the Super Eagles' last place in a very qualifying-friendly group, the government seem to have taken a straw poll amongst the most disappointed and vociferous fans and decided to suspend their national team for two years - an astonishing decision that came right from the top, and the elegantly-titled president Goodluck Jonathan. Aptly titled, because he'll need it trying to explain the rationale to a very unhappy FIFA.

*chuckles*
It is funny actually but then I believe GJ's decision is well taken.
Fine, we have a million things wrong with the country but this means at least one tiny step has been taken. Let's sit back n see if it works.

Who knows, maybe other sports wld finally get some more attention and the Super Eagles some talented and YOUNG blood.
