Car Doors Won’t Lock? See Why Your Car Doors Refuses To Lock by AutosageNaija: 12:18pm On Sep 17, 2018
Remote car locks are a beautiful thing. It is a thing of joy to be able to lock your car with a remote control. It is not only fashionable; it makes things easy and gives you the confidence that your ride is safe.

But have you ever been in a situation where the remote refuses to lock the door or the key fob couldn’t lock the door again?

It could be frustrating a lot.

You would be left with the only choice of locking the door with a manual key. However, you don’t have to do this.

The good news is this. You can fix the problem. And you can even fix it yourself.

Here are 5 problems why the remote can’t lock the door again and how you can fix it.

1. The Battery Is Dead

Just like the car itself, the lock remote has a tiny battery that powers it and enables it to work. When this battery is dead, the key is equally dead.

Just compare it to your TV remote control. There is a battery in it right? It is the same thing here. Make sure the battery is still active and not dead or dying.

You will know that it is the battery if the remote control deems a weak red light but the lock is not working.

Many people simply ignore the remote control and start using the key like that.

But you can get your car lock back to electronic remote lock by changing the battery of the remote control.

2. You may have a blown fuse

Sometimes it’s one door that keeps giving problem while others are responding; the problem here is mostly a blown fuse.

In each of the doors, there is a device called a fuse which controls electrical current to the doors to enable it to work. If this fuse is blown, the door won’t lock or open with remote control anymore.

However, it may or may not affect the other doors from working. So you need to be careful, you may not notice that one door is not working and a thief might seize the opportunity to bugle you.

This is why it is always proper to double check after using the remote control to lock your door.

3. The solenoid in the car doors is bad:

Again, if one door doesn’t work, but others do, the problem could be with the door lock solenoid. A solenoid is a coiled wire in the car door panel. If it is burnt from high voltage or worn out from old age, you will need to replace it. Replacing it may require removing the car door panel.

This coiled wire converts electrical energy to mechanical energy which then controls the opening and locking of the doors. There is one solenoid in every door, so if other doors are locking and one doesn’t, then the solenoid of that particular door is dead and needs changing.

4. You may have a broken wire:

If the solenoid is working and okay, then it’s the lock switch that is not getting power or enough power from the battery. In the situation where the lock is not getting power, there is a broken wire in the system.

Your locksmith will have to remove the door panel and fix the broken wire and the door will start locking again.

However, the question is how to locate a locksmith in your area. Instead of looking for a locksmith, it will be easier for you to seek out an auto electrician popularly called a rewire in our local mechanic workshops.

They won’t always know what to do but you can help them by knowing what the problem is beforehand. You can do this by reading Autosage stories to stay up to date with auto care tips.
