When the #NotTooYoungToRun Act became consititutional in Nigeria ahead of the 2019 general elections, young Nigerians on social media jumped on it, commending the Senate and President Muhammadu Buhari.

Months down the line, the real circumstance is staring many of them in the face.

It is like a hot yam given to a child just to make the child stop crying, while the adult consumes the large share of the spoils.

While young Nigerians interested in political position have in their minds set to run for positions against the older generation, majority of them are forced to shudder like a castrated he-goat before a she-goat.

The Act declares them ‘Not Too Young To Run’, with the ages for political office holders dropped to accommodate a certain number of young Nigerians whose population far outweighs those of the older generation.

But the situation on ground throws a challenge to them, reminding them that their 'Pockets Are Still Too Young To Run'.

In the past few weeks, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has taken his political tour of Nigeria to different states, pushing his #GrowNigeria agenda forward.

He has been to the South-South, South-East, North-Central, North-East, North-West and then South West, where he is at the moment.

In Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city where he was on Monday, it became more obvious that running for political positions in Nigeria was one of the most expensive ventures to embark on.

In Lagos, Saraki allegedly gave the delegates that will vote in the presidential primaries of the PDP 5 million Naira to secure their support.

Aside the delegates, the Senate President also donated 3 million Naira for the payment of party's secretariat rent, 2 million Naira to the party, 1 million Naira to the party leaders, 500,000 Naira for the Women and 500,000 Naira for the youths.

In Lagos alone, 12 Million Naira was shared without receipts issued in less than an hour.

Days ago, the Senate President received a nomination form for the Presidential election which, according to the price list of the PDP, costs 12 million Naira.

If he spends this much in Lagos State alone, consider how much he must have spent in other states that he has visited.

Dr. Saraki has also bought the PDP’s nomination form for the Senatorial race just for a cushion, should he lose the bid to be President.

That form also costs 3.5 million Naira.

If you have been dreaming of vying for a political position, you may just have to look into your pocket gain and see if you have the kind of amount needed.

To help you reach the top in politics if you are interested, Dr. Saraki and even the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, have recommended that you look at political appointments as a cheaper alternative.

Cheaper but not less tasking. There would also need to be a god-father to whom you must be loyal for your name to make the list of nominees.

You would also remember there would be screening before the final swearing ceremony. Whichever turn you take, be reminded there is a suitable hurdle waiting.
