The champions league Wednesday matchup was a delight as the teams scrambled up against each other looking for a much solicited win.

Among the big wins included Manchester United's (0-3) against the young boys at Switzerland. Juventus, Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Lyon also picked up a much deserved win from their respective fixtures.

Bad news however for Manchester city and Cristiano Ronaldo. The latter was sent off for allegedly pulling a defender's hair as early as the 29th minute, while the former [ man city ] lost to Lyon at Etihad in their first champions league fixture of the season.

Champions League Wednesday fixture results

Ajax 3-0 AEK

Shaktar Donetsk 2-2 Hoffenheim

Real Madrid 3-0 Roma

Valencia 0-2 Juventus

Benfica 0-2 Bayern Munich

Plzen 2-2 CSKA Moscow

Man city 1-2 Lyon

Young boys 0-3 Man united

How Far fetched were Manchester city from last season's dominance as Lyon walked past them at the Etihad
Manchester city lost to Lyon in their first champions league game and that is definitely not a good result for pep Guardiola and the last season premier league champions.

Guardiola watched from the stands as city set a new unwanted record as they became the first English team to lose four champions league matches. A loss against Basel last season followed by two-legged losses to Liverpool and then this ?

Goals from Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir sunk Pep Guardiola's men with former man utd striker Memphis Depay popping up both times for the assist despite Bernado Silva pulling one back in the 2-1 defeat for city.

Pep Guardiola cut a miserable figure, frustrated that he could do next to nothing and was seen consoling his devastated daughter at the end of the fixture.

The home defeat puts city in a tough position and could see them finish as the group runner-up with hopefully easier games against Hoffenheim and shaktar Donetsk. But first the last season terminators would have to pick themselves up for the weekend game against cardiff City on Saturday.

Manchester United go top after (0-3) win against the young boys
Jose Guardiola named a changed side for the game against young boys at Switzerland. The lineup included Luke Shaw who returned from a concussion during the international break. Diogo Dalot was handed his debut while Martial, Rashford and Fred were also included for the game.

Despite playing on an artificial pitch, Man utd ensured their was no room for a second bite as they wrapped up the game with two goals from Paul Pogba and a third from Anthony Martial.

Paul Pogba put up an impressive performance despite taking a while to adjust to the game. The french man set the ball in place before letting lose a stunner into the corner. Moments later and it was two through a penalty before Anthony Martial sealed it for the red devils with a deflected goal.

Despite a comfortable night out, jose Mourinho was quite concerned about the pitch as he revealed it could lead to major injuries to players.
'Now I can say, I don’t understand how you can play the best club competition on artificial pitch,’ he said.
'You know, probably some fear injuries. I had some players after training yesterday – light training – and they were feeling ankles, back pains, sore.
‘It’s not easy, especially not for people who are adapted to it. Also a little bit of a fear in the duels, people are used to great surfaces in England, always watered if not rain – the clubs they provide the water and the football is much more beautiful that way.’

Juventus Win at Valencia as Cristiano Ronaldo sees red
It was a night of mixed feelings for the juventus fans who saw their team pick up a much needed three points against Spanish side Valencia but also saw their summer signing Cristiano send off for allegedly pulling a defender's hair.

Two penalties from Miralem Pjanic gave the Italian giants a 2-0 win in Valencia, but the Champions League's all-time leading goal scorer Cristiano Ronaldo with 120 goals was dismissed just 29 minutes into the game following an off-the-ball incident.

Cristiano Ronaldo's red card could see him miss at least a match but at worst miss the two-legged tie against Manchester United and that has left Massimiliano Allegri who believes VAR could have saved the day devastated.

‘Today the guys played really well, up until the red card we had many balls played towards goal, then we deservedly went ahead and after being up 2-0, as is normal, we gave up some opportunities,’

‘But when we needed to play, we played, when we needed to defend, we did well.'

‘The red card? I can only say that VAR would have helped the referee with his decision, because to remain a man down from the 29th minute, in a Champions League match, for a doubtful episode is displeasing.'

'We hope we only lose Cristiano for as little as possible, but certainly VAR would have helped.’

Real Madrid see of Roma with new no 7 scoring a screamer
Real Madrid were off to a flying start as they hope to defend the prestigious trophy for a record third time under Julen Lopetegui.

Goals from Isco Alarcon, Gareth Bale and a screamer from new no 7 M. Diaz set the Champions on their way to victory.

Isco scored a wonderful free kick, Gareth bale showed great athleticism to score a second and M. Diaz showed great strength in the third. However, it was a piece of daunting skill from Marco Asensio which left the stadium buzzing and had the Spanish boy scored it would have been one in a million.

Marco Asensio left the Roma defense rooted to the spot with a brilliant piece of skill before attempting a no look pass which was eventually saved by the goal keeper.

There were also wins for several other clubs including Bayern Munich and Ajax while Shaktar Donetsk and Hoffenheim, Plzen and CSKA Moscow could only manage a 2-2 draw.
