Job Title: Protection Associate

The incumbent will have the following responsibilities:
• Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment.
• Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct.
• Assist in providing comments on existing and draft legislation related to persons of concern.
• Provide advice on protection issues to persons of concern; liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documentation.
• Assist in conducting eligibility and status determination for persons of concern.
• Contribute to measures to identify, prevent and reduce statelessness.
• Contribute to a country-level child protection plan as part of the protection strategy.

Context, Duties And Responsibilities
• The Protection Associate reports to the Protection Officer. He/she will monitor protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards and provides functional protection support to information management and programme staff.
• The incumbent will be expected to coordinate quality, timely and effective protection responses to the needs of populations of concern and identify opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies and integrate protection safeguards in operational responses in all sectors.
• He/she will contribute to designing a comprehensive protection strategy and liaises externally with authorities and partners on protection doctrine and policy as guided by the supervisor.
• The Protection Associate will also ensure that persons of concern are involved in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions to their problems.
• To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners.

Job Title: Information Technology & Communication (ICT) Associate

Context, Duties and Responsibilities
• Under the overall supervision of the Admin/Finance Officer, the ICT Associate provides reliable and timely ICT services on the application and infrastructure of UNHCR standard ICT services in the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
• S/he receives technical guidance from ICT Officer in Abuja or Regional ICT Officer responsible for the Telecom/IT infrastructure in the region in which the field or emergency operation exists.
The incumbent will have the following responsibilities:
• Assist in on-site needs assessment and installation and maintenance of UNHCR Telecommunications and IT equipment.
• In consultation with the Senior Regional ICT officer, establish the ICT requirements in field operations, taking into account the overall IT and Telecom strategy of the region, the operational needs and the security constraints.
• Install and configure the most appropriate type of UNHCR IT and Telecommunications systems (HF, VHF, UHF, and Microwave Links, Telephony, and satellite systems) to meet the field and emergency operations immediate ICT needs.

• S/he works independently on routine tasks while follows instructions of the supervisor or more complex issues.

Context, Duties And Responsibilities
• The incumbent is based in the Maiduguri Sub-office under the supervision of the Admin/Finance Officer who defines general work objectives and provides necessary advice and guidance. The Admin/Finance Associate may supervise some support staff in which case Managerial competencies are applicable and should be selected by the staff member and manager in the context of Performance Appraisal Management (e-PAD).
• The incumbent keeps frequent contacts with staff at various levels in the Sub-Office and occasionally with staff at the same level in other duty stations and/or Headquarters; with local suppliers, banks and financial institutions on subject matters which may be of importance to the Sub-Office and organisation at large.

• Performs personnel administration tasks including interpretation and processing entitlements, issuance of contracts and maintenance of various personnel records and files;
• Assists in conducting preliminary interviews of candidates, administering typing exams and recruitment of GL staff;
• Conducts surveys of local cost of living, DSA rate and servicing staff, housing rental and collects information on the above-mentioned.
