CULTISM AND EFFECTS ON STUDENTS IN NIGERIA
Cultism can also be called secret cult. It can be defined as an enclosed organization devoted to the same course. Members of this group always commit themselves to oath and allegiance which serve as their strong bond. Cultism is a form of organization whose activities are not only exclusively kept away from the knowledge of others but such activities away from the knowledge of others but such activities are carried out at old hours of the day and they often clash with the accepted norms and values of everything life.

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines cult as a small group of people of who have extreme religious belief and who are part of any established religious. With the rampancy of cultism in many Nigeria institutions, it has hence become a subject of attraction leading to intense study by many students which has resulted in the rampancy of this discuss as presented in a plethora undergraduate research thesis. Moreover, below are the effects of cultism on Students in Nigeria:

DRUG ADDICTION
Drug addiction is one of the effects of cultism. This covert society exposes them members to drugs through a reliable network of dealers. These drugs are substances such as marijuana, cocaine, tramadol, codeine etc. which are sedative to human beings. The constant usage of them can expose the brain to incessant crave for it which with time becomes an addiction.

INCOMPLETE EDUCATION
More often than not, cultist not only in Nigeria, end up being drop-outs. Mostly in lieu of the atrocities they commit, they are rusticated, by this they end up being a nuisance to the society. In some cases, students who engage in cultism fail to make an average of a cumulative point, mostly because of their show of scant interest toward studies and on the bases of this, the institution may advise them to withdraw.

UNTIMELY DEATH
One of the most disastrous effect of cultism is loss of lives. In Nigeria, mostly every week news is heard about some certain cult clashes which have always resulted in the death of two or more cult members. Even the government agencies who are always on a constant effort, fight crime such as armed robbery, kidnapping drug abuse, murder etc. carried out by cult members. The outcome of such operation often result in exchange of fire, arrest and detention, imprisonment and death. As such many students who engage in this hideous act have lost their lives either in the course of a shootout confrontation.

Furthermore, they become a nuisance to the society as the tend to engage in actions that disrupt the peace of the society. The loss their societal values and in turn imbibe the values of their confraternity. Also, the also experience behavioral disorder which is as a result of the drug they are being exposed to.
