Alcohol consumption is a serious public health challenge worldwide, including in Nigeria. Although the level of alcohol consumption differs widely around the world, the burden of disease and death remains significant in most regions. Recent evidence also indicates that alcohol consumption is now the world's third largest risk factor for disease and disability; almost 4% of all deaths globally are attributed to alcohol. However, alcohol is the most commonly used psychoactive drug in both young people and adults in Nigeria. The rate of this consumption in Nigeria has triggered research on factors constituting its rampancy which has reflected in its placement as undergraduate research topics in many universities in Nigeria

ABSENCE OF ALCOHOL POLICIES
This is a combination of Federal, State, and local laws stirred towards shaping the how alcohol is sold, bought and used. This policy is mostly in effect in countries like USA. The absence of policies of this nature contribute to the rampancy of alcohol consumption in Nigeria

EASY ACCESS TO ALCOHOLIC DRINKS
In Nigeria, alcoholic drinks are sold almost everywhere even in shops in Secondary schools which makes it accessible to youngster and underage students. This contributes to its alarming rate of consumption in Nigeria.

LACK OF IMPLEMENTATION OF A MINIMUM DRINKING AGE
In lieu of the absence of alcohol policies, the is equally no minimum drinking age in Nigeria. Though sometimes, our morals inform us that certain persons at teen ages should not be allowed to take alcohol but there has not been any law as regard to this. This contributes to its frequent consumption rate in Nigeria.
