FIFA has announced Luka Modric as the winner of the FIFA Best Award yesterday in London. The Real Madrid and Croatia midfield was given the highest individual gong in football for a great season where he was part of the Real Madrid team who won the third consecutive Champions League and led Croatia to the World Cup final.
The ex Totenham Hotspur midfielder was fantastic for club and country and seized maximum votes to clinch the price.





However the award ceremony was marred in controversy as many felt Cristiano’s decision to leave Real Madrid was being used to marginalise him and Messi who had been his compatriot in the ceremony over the decade was excluded entirely may be to pave way for other players. While Messi didn’t expect to clinch it because of his performance in the world cup. The Barcelona man had a great club form where he won the La Liga top scorer netting 35 goals and winning the League and the Copa Del Rey trophy. Messi was menacing by his acts and should at least have been among the nominees because he outscored Mohammed Salah and the Egyptian was trophyless last season. Messi netted 53 times and in 58 games while Salah netted 15 times winning with 32 coming in the League but winning nothing but was put ahead of Messi.

Ronaldo on the other hand was fantastic as he carried his team to the Champions League final scoring 15 times. Cristiano also performed incredibly well in the world cup though his nation Portugal had an early exit in the Round of 16. The European all time country scorer was excellent as he netted a hattrick against Spain to claw a point for his nation in the first game of the world
