Data usage is how much data your device uploads or downloads using mobile data
There are various ways to ensure that your data is minimally used. To make sure that you’re not using too much data on your data plan, you can check and change your data usage. The following tips will help you manage your data usage on your android smartphone.

Tip 1; Check your data usage and set data usage limit

-Go to setting and click on the ‘data usage’ option, check which of your apps do consume more data

-Click on each of the apps and personalize the data usage (personalize in the sense that, you should set a limit to the data consumption, this way the app automatically stops running on data once it reaches the limit)

-You can also set a general limit for all apps, by timing the date or amount of data to consume within a certain period of time.

-You can as well restrict background data, which means all apps stop running on data once you opt out of them.

Tip 2; Change Network Mode

-Go to your settings, click on the option ‘More networks’

-Check for the option ‘Mobile networks’ and click, after which you will see various other options, click on the option ‘Network modes’

-Now (for those that have varieties of modes) you will find different options which include, ‘ GSM only'(for most android phone which is usually 2G in most cases), ‘WCDMA or 3G'(for those who have 3G compatible phones), others include LTE or4G

-Note that the higher the network the more data consumed, so it is advisable to browse with the lowest, especially when the network is favourable for all mode.

Tip 3; General Tips

-Turn off mobile data when not in use

-Turn off wireless hotspot to avoid invasion, or better still encrypt with password

-Turn of your ‘Auto-sync’ (When auto-sync is on, your Google apps automatically refresh data, and your device gets notifications about updates. You can use less data by turning off auto-sync).

-Turn off data roaming(When you’re in an area not covered by your carrier’s network, data roaming lets your device use other carriers’ networks. Some carriers charge extra for data roaming. You can save data and data roaming fees by turning off data roaming.)
