German luxury automaker Porsche has will no longer continue to manufacture diesel engine cars, not when the future of cars is screaming electric. Porsche is one of the automotive company under the Volkswagen group but has not really been very serious about manufacture diesel cars. Yes it produced some diesel models of it’s models, including the Porsche Cayenne but when the scandal about Volkswagen cheating emission erupted, Porsche stylishly moved away from manufacturing diesel powered cars. Now, it has completely dumped the idea and will rather invest and focus it’s attention in the production of hybrid vars and electric cars which is the future of the automotive industry.

Porsche hasn’t had any diesel models in its portfolio since February 2018. And the volume of Porsche diesel models it sold in 2017 globally was just 12%.

Meanwhile, interest in hybrid models has grown, Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman and board member wrote in a post on LinkedIn. About 63% of Panamera vehicles are ordered as hybrid models, Meschke said.

“Porsche has no intention of demonizing the diesel engine — it is, and will remain, an important drive technology,” Meschke said in his LinkedIn post. “As a sports car manufacturer for which diesel engines have traditionally played a subordinate role, we have come to the conclusion that we can survive without diesel models in the future.”

However Porsche says it will continue to provide service to existing diesel customers but will no longer manufacture new ones. Porsche plans to invest more than 6 billion euro ($7 billion) into electrification, which includes hybrids, by 2022.
