Ex-gov Joins Race For House Of Reps by abbakacici: 12:34pm On Sep 27, 2018
The immediate past governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Usman Dakingari, has reportedly joined the race for the House of Representatives.

The news of his new move has, however, elicited shock in many quarters in the state and beyond, considering that in the event he wins, he would be the first ex-governor to end up in the House of Reps.
Most governors since 1999 have secured seats in the Senate after leaving office.

Sources said Dakingari has collected the nomination/expression of interest form to contest for the House of Representatives to represent Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency.
It was gathered that the former governor obtained the form at the APC national headquarters in Abuja a few days ago.

The state chairman of APC, Architect Bala Sani Kangiwa, told our correspondent that he only heard that the former governor had picked the House of Representatives form in Abuja, adding that he was not officially briefed on the development.

“Yes, I heard he obtained the form in Abuja but I am yet to get the official list of people who are to contest the various seats in Kebbi State,” he said.

However, a party source in Abuja confirmed that Dakingari had joined the race, saying they were happy with his humility to have agreed to go for the seat.

“This is not a new thing. A former deputy governor in Nasarawa State ran for councillorship seat in 2011. Dakingari is not corrupt like most former governors,” said the source.

It could be recalled that Dakingari contested the Kebbi North senatorial election while leaving power during the last political dispensation but lost to Senator Yahaya Abdullahi.

Sources told our correspondent that the former governor, who decamped to the APC few months ago with his deputy, Alhaji K. Aliyu and other top officials of his administration, had wanted to re-contest the Kebbi North senatorial seat but settled for the House of Representatives seat when it was clear that the party had again given the ticket to Sen. Abdullahi.
