The figures from the FRSC recruitment agrees with you.

I am not arguing that there are no jobs, I am putting it on the job to graduate ratio.

If you mean jobs as doing something for others to earn and making it a business then you are right. But if you mean jobs as regards to white collar jobs, NBS says you are on a long thing.

Those arguing that some (not all) Nigerian graduates are not employable have a valid point though.

Most of them during their undergraduate days were busy cramming, reading to pass the school exams, not knowing that the real world offer a different approach to situations.

That is why you see graduates of different fields cannot handle effectively the tools needed to work in the real world.

Imagine a Computer science students who crammed programming to pass, Engineering students that crammed to pass etc all thinking that the measure of the grade attained will provide the needed job.

Have you not wondered why you see crisscrossing in fields. Graduates in fields different from what they spent years studying in School.

Although in the 21st century, the blame will e on the students for not making ample use of the internet to fine tune the needed skills in their chosen field.

I have come to the conclusion that in the fairness of equilibrium, the system will continue like this.

I wanted to comment until i saw your scholarly comment. You are truly educated. Paper Qualification is no true test of knowledge and intelligence (IQ). People cheat or cram to pass exams. And the Nigerian education system places emphasis on READING TO PASS, AND NOT READING TO REASON, which was the colonial agenda.

@OP,

Guy, I have 14 years experience. A fresh graduate cannot replace me in my position. He can only learn from me as an intern and hope to be like me or better than me in the future.

There are places for fresh graduates, there are also places for experienced professionals.

Your post cannot convince anyone to place a fresh graduate where experience is needed.

Sir, the fault is not from the students but from the tertiary institutions and government . Imagine living in a country where foreign expatriates are employed by the government to build roads and other infrastructural facilities which your own students cannot build because of corruption and lack of trust in their abilities. In developed nations, the educational systems are designed to handle everyday problem and challenges and make improvements on preexisting knowledge. Which is why their society is our envy

Saddist! All countries have their own unique ways of life. Chinese are usually hardworking. Russians are usually politically sophisticated and very patriotic. Brazilians are natural talented when it comes to football. Jamaicans are good dancers. Nigerians are smart! Smartness and integrity are not the same. I repeat, Nigerians are naturally smart. But smartness and integrity are not the same.

With this, you have perfectly absolve yourself of the blame. It's good to make excuses but be involved.

I have a plan of bridging the gap a bit if the professionals will cooperate.

The institution is a cycle of old notes, old syllabus and old equipment. In this dispensation you can work with their old mentality to pass your exams but bear in mind that there are lots of online courses which is free, the next thing to say will then be time management.

I will sight a simple example. There is an Elect/Elect student who has passion for automation but in his school there is nothing like auto not to talk of mation.

He goes online to see PDF materials on automation, he downloads it and starts reading. He joins a group/forum where automation enthusiasts and professionals meet. He starts learning from the group and asks questions as well and gets tutored on his passion.

He downloads videos as well in search for his passion.
When it's time for SIWES/IT, there is a challenge getting where he will best get the best out of what he is passionate about.

He prepares a CV detailing what he knows and use his connect with professionals on platforms like LinkedIn, NSE pages and ask for recommendations/placement.

At least one must click.

While at this he ensure to keep up with academic activities to also come out with a good grade but he already knows where he is going.

(Problem solved)

To the problem with government.

What you have said is very true but that should still not deter you from getting the best out of the system. There are local guys making waves in Nigeria and if by any means you should also know that local content speaks in some areas though there may be foreign background in the picture.

We are getting to a stage where guys of different fields will have to collaborate to make something work.
Individual effort sometimes is good but sometimes results are best gotten via team work.

Be different, add your educational knowledge to what you do and keep building yourself. You know where you are going, so keep climbing the ladder, it might be slow but be consistent.

I know as a starter, it might be difficult business wise because when you see some jobs you feel you can do as a person/company. They start asking for 3years documents from you. Don't let that discourage you.

Keep doing what you know best to do and document it properly, little by little those small things you think you are doing but you get your client satisfied will spur you to your limelight.

In all my submissions, it is not as easy as you see it but never let down or back down.

Little drops of water makes a might ocean.

Be positive, stay 'woke'

NB: as to the developed world scenario, until we have companies invest into the educational system with an exchange program as well, there won't be a solution.

You definitely have points but what happens when the system will not provide a solution for you, you position yourself to either solve the system's problem or make the system have you as one of its block element.
