A Nigerian male, Anthony Chima Anyanwu was arrested on 29 June as part of a UK Border Agency investigation into a suspected sham marriage.

Acting on intelligence, officers from the UK Border Agency's north west immigration crime team arrested Anyanwu, 41, of 14 Albert Avenue, Manchester, as part of a wider sham marriage operation. He has been charged with obtaining leave to remain by deception, perjury and ID card offences. He is due to appear in Burnley Magistrates Court on Wednesday 22 September.
Dave Magrath, Head of the UK Border Agency immigration crime team in the north-west, said:
'We will challenge anyone who we suspect may take part in a sham marriage and seek to prosecute where appropriate. We will also seek to remove foreign national offenders convicted of involvement in marriage scams after they have served their sentences.'
