It is simply preposterous to say Executive Governor, Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode is disbursing jaw dropping sums of money to gain a second term in office.

Ambo's achievements speak loudly where he has maintained a dignified silence.

Citizens in Agege, Lekki, Epe, Abule Egba, Shogunle, Ilaje, Ojokoro and Oshodi to name check but a few are ebullient and can testify to the economic and social growth in their various corridors.
Opening up was one of the ways to ensure an equitable distribution of the state's commonwealth. Whatever revenues including taxes, land use charges, toll fees generated by the government over the course of the last three years, have been invested in projects spread across the state. All these capital projects are at a considerable cost to the government and it can only be financed by all classes of the citizenry.

There is only so much that can be done by any government in four years. The gripes about the lack of progress on the Blue Line (the 27km light rail project running between Marina, Mile II and Okokomaiko) started by Governor Ambode's predecessor, Babatunde Raji Fashola must be taken in considered context.

The cold hard fact is that this project was never going to be completed by Fashola. The sheer enormity of the capital investment required is beyond one regime and this applies to Ambode as well. Without direct foreign investment, it will nigh impossible to complete the upgrade and facelift Lagos State desperately needs. An additional four-year term will allow Ambode the time and resources expedient to keep the newly adjusted project completion date in 2022.

Presently, only the Blue Line Light Rail project is in progress. Lagos will require $2.5 billion to fund the Red Line phase. The state government recently signed agreements with French company, Alstom SA and Chinese company, Power China to oversee the Blue Line final phases, procure commuter coaches and facilitate the completion of the electrification phase from Okokomaiko all the way to Seme respectively. This final phase will cost the State 600 to 700 billion Naira.

The allusions by the opposition questioning the project delivery timelines is unsubstantiated and frankly, misguided.

Judge Ambode on the Facts not on mere sentiments being pushed about by politicians who have been stopped on feeding fat on Lagos
