Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, were on Monday conspicuously absent at a parade organised to commemorate Nigeria’s 58th independence anniversary.

The strictly military event held at the Eagles Square, Abuja, was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Recall that Saraki and Dogara recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Also in attendance at the parade was the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was also absent at the event attended by two former military leaders: Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.).

On arrival at the venue, Buhari first took the national salute before moving to inspect the parade in a motorcade.

He later returned to the VIP stand to join Osinbajo, Onnoghen, Gowon, Abdulsalami and other dignitaries.

Shut up
With this brain, you can never make it in life.

Go to kwara state and see all the "achievements" of your lord and saviour who governed the state for 8 good years.

Suddenly, just because the thief is no longer in apc and now against buhari's government, he's become a Saint to you.
How miserable are you?
Cry me a river.....what happens in Kwara state isn't my concern. I'm concerned about the person leading Nigeria. And FYI I'm no fan of Saraki. If Saraki is a thief, Buhari is a klepto BTW

The entire Lagos APC missing the parade is normal.

But anyone from another party missing it is unpatriotic.

Unpatriotic elements. Leave political differences and respond to the clarion call. These folks (Saraki & Dogara) failing their duties and responsibilities as a citizen. Worthy or unworthy, today is Nigeria's Independence Day celebration, they(Saraki & Dogara) should be present. What a shame such unpatriotic individuals holds highest level of offices without an element of loyalty to motherland.

A senate president who will attend a lavish independence day ceremony knowing fully well his country has been mortgaged by loans

How do we begin since some of us here take it for fun? We the youths need to pause and ponder and then apply our YOUTHFUL intelligence to think and make clever decisions even if we don't fully manifest in time for this election, before next election we are already a force. The reason why we are still like this is because we fail ourselves by shying away from things we need to do. Let's THINK, THINK,THINK and STRATEGIZE on how to move forward. Look at how creative, innovative and clever most of us are but still specialize in 1. Bring him down syndrome 2. Tribalism 3. If not me or us, no one else 4. APC or PDP 5. Lack of result oriented movements/plans 6. Caricatures, uninterested in national discourse etc.(No disrespect). Nowhere in the world have u seen youths complaining without actions and u expect results. For instance, NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL has recently been signed. That means we must be a force by next election. Our time is near.

OK someone tweeted and said we should DESCRIBE NIGERIA@58!
So here is my description of Nigeria@58years old

At first the decision to finally let her go was a tough one owing to the fact that after letting America, India etc go she could not afford letting Nigeria too go just like that
"But your imperial majesty, the longer we hold on the more the agitations so I feel the best we can do is to decentralized her children the stubborn one should go far North the wise ones should go West the enterprising ones should stay around the East the organised ones should stay south said lord lugard 1914 (first mistake they made for her)
"OK so be it go divide her children into protectorate just as you ve said lugard said the queen"
"But your majesty she needs a name, what should we call her "
"Let's go by the name suggested by lady flora N.I.G.E.R.I.A we will call her "
Nigeria she was called, she grew in an environment where everyone loved eachother then one night her sons and daughters started missing one by one they were captured and taken to a land called obodo'Igbo
She cried and cried to be free from the hands of her tormentors but the more she cried the more the harsh residence then finally she was let free tho at a tender age she was eiger to explore the world she too wanted to enjoy the joy of being free unfortunately that joy was short changed one night one of her sons from the east decided he too alongside his enterprising kindred must be free..then she ploughed into war, raped repeatedly she lost her grandchildren and greatgrand children to hunger and starvation luckily for her,her son from the east after 30months gave up on his freedom bid he was surpressed from his northern brothers!!
Again she was back to the beginning she must pick up herself at 10years she had seen just too much of what freedom means
She fought strong, grew in strength and in wisdom as every beautiful young girl she became the envy of so many people, she opened her arms to her friends from the west(ghana)whose economy was nothing compared to hers should come stay with her.
Little by little she was enjoying what mother nature had freely given her(oil) so many men came after her she dated a few,a few that all they wanted was to suck her dry and of coarse they did by this time her northern sons wanted everything to themselves, they wanted to rule every other child
Slowly she became broke she ran back to her tormentors to ask for loans..aids etc that was the 2nd mistake
Eventually the loans came but she lost her independence!!!!!
Her friends from the west and far Asia(india) started leaving why won't they leave when their home became better
She paid lip concern to making she her currency fights devaluation
At 49 she met a good man a man who saw beyond her weariness and had plans to make her grow again but sadly good men don't last he died....
She was heartbroken but gained solace that they was someone she could talk to a friend to that good man..he tried to console her but he focused too much on appeasing his brothers from the North who didt like that fact that power was no longer in their hands...Not too long she dumped that man!!!
She suddenly remembered a man she had dated while she was young! She was desperate, menopause is drawing nearer and yet her sons and daughters prefer leaving her to other countries
She thought remarrying her old boyfriend will make things better!!!

At 58 Nigeria is like that woman who just entered menopause she is regretful all that is left are only memories of when she was the envy of other nations
At 58 she is still praying to be better at 58 her sons from the east are still glamouring for freedom
At 58 she is confused she doesn't know what lifestyle she should practice
At 58 she is still striving to make her economy grow!!!
At 58 she has become more dependent than independent
She depends on her tormentors for self evaluation, aids, etc
At 58 she has become more divided than ever..... Her sons still can't eat a handful of 3 square meal a day
But @ 58 she is still hopeful .
Her greatness will flourish again like a tree planted by the river side
Soon she is contemplating letting go of this her old boyfriend she remarried maybe all she needs at 58 is someone who understands her, someone who is ready to make her smile again
At 58 what do you think she needs?
We can only say happy independence Day NIGERIA if our electoral system, judicial system, legislative system etc become independent!!!!?
