The former Abia State governor, Senator Theodore Orji, yesterday polled 489 out of 500 votes to win the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abia Central senatorial district primary. In his acceptance speech, at the Indoor Sports Hall of Umuahia Township Staduim, Umuahia, the State capital, Orji expressed apprectiation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him. Explaining that he had offered quality representation to the constituent, he said he had spent N79 million on skills acquisition empowerment and offering of scholarship to 180 undergraduates. The senator said others include free eye surgeries for 500 patients, provision of 35 electric tranformers, the same amount of tricycle to youth, and portable water to the communities. His word: ” The list is very long, but this is the tip of the iceberg. Having said this, I want to appeal to the electorate in general to replicate what you did today during the general election.”

Announcing the result, the Chief Returning Officer, Prince Ezekwesiri Ananaba described the execise as orderly, adding that six delegetes did not vote, while five were voided. Meanwhile, as at press time, the Senators representing Abia North and Abia South Senatorial districts, Mao Ohuabunwa and Enyi Abaribe respectively were said to be leading. In a related development, the conduct of the governorship primary of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) faction led by Hon Don Nwankpa was still in progress.
