Miss Victoria Sunday, a single-room tenant at No. 3 High Ten­sion, Urua Ekpa area of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, was allegedly pelted with hot water by her landlady, Mrs. Eka Abasi-Ama, over failure to pay N370 electricity bill.

Orient Weekend gathered that the incident occurred on 25th of September, 2018, when the land­lady confronted the tenant, an orphan, who resides in the single room with her twin brother.

According to an eyewitness account, “the landlady was de­manding the sum of N370 from the twins for their NEPA bill, but the twins sincerely told Mrs. Eka Abasi-Ama that they don’t have the money at the moment but can only pay later.

“The landlady allegedly start­ed shouting at the twins, but the husband intervened and told her to pardon them for the moment that they will pay later. The ex­planation did not go down well with the wife, who angrily ac­cused the landlord (husband) of having sexual affairs with the tenant (Victoria) and threatened to kill her.

“The victim was said to have fired back by denying the alle­gation, but the landlady angrily poured dirty water on her before they could be separated.

Continuing: “The next morning on that fateful day, at about some minutes past 7am, the landla­dy came out from her flat with a pocket of hot water and poured it on the girl while she was trying to brush her hair before going to the nursery and primary school where she works.

“She wanted to pour the hot water on her face but the girl bent her head and the water poured on her head and back. The twin brother and some tenants around fought the landlady before good Samaritan neighbours rushed her to an undisclosed hospital”, the eyewitness recalled.

Orient Weekend further learnt that the landlady and her hus­band had taken to their heels be­fore the arrival of the police, who promised to arrest her as soon as they set their eyes on her.
