A former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. After the party's special National Convention which held in Portharcourt, the Rivers State capital, Atiku scored the highest number of votes numbering up to 1,532 to defeat 11 other presidential aspirants.

Votes scored by other defeated presidential aspirants are as follows:

Taminu Turaki -- 65
Sule Lamido -- 96
Atahiru Bafarawa -- 48
Ibrahim Dankwambo -- 111
Ahmed Makarfi -- 74
Musa Kwankwaso -- 158
Bukola Saraki -- 317
Aminu Tambuwal -- 693

By the results above, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will be the eye of the opposition to wrestle power from incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress , APC in next year's Presidential Election.

Suanu's Blog reports that this will be the fourth time Alhaji Atiku will be vying for the presidency. If He fails at this bid, it may be his last opportunity as age is far against Him.
