The just concluded PDP presidential primary have shown that about 1 trillion naira might be spent by the two leading parties in Nigeria: APC and PDP. In the just concluded PDP each of the delegates were said to have collected $9000 dollars amounting to about #3,500,000. This means that PDP presidential candidates spent approximately 10 billion naira to get delegates to votes for them without taking into cognizance the cost of obtaining presidential forms and primary election campaigns. Likewise, the 14 million delegates that voted for PMB would not have done that for free.This showed that vote buying cannot be ruled out in 2019.
In Nigeria there are 74,000,000 eligible voters spread across Nigeria. Assuming PDP and APC gives each voters at least #5,000, it means that you each voters would have collected #10,000 from both parties. This means that about 800,000,000,000 would be given to voters across the country. Never forget that agents that are with the money will also keep their share as no one be mumu.
Our 2018 annual budget as passed into law is 9.12 trillion naira. This means that just for vote buying alone both parties would have spent approximately 10% of our 2018 budget. Keep in mind that times 4 of this will be spent on other logistics for election.
