How Politicians Deface Street Walls And Surfaces In Lagos (PHOTOS) by autojosh: 4:10pm On Oct 08, 2018 |
In 2006, the Lagos state government enacted the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) Law. This law was designed to prevent and punish the act of defacing street surfaces by residents. At the time, it was almost impossible to see a street or road in Lagos without an eyesore of a jumble of posters, or other advertising signs. Roads, medians, junctions and streets were literally littered with different signboards, banners of different sizes, A-frames, meant to advertise a product, service, event or organization. Through LASAA, the Lagos State has spent millions of naira on advocacy meant to dissuade residents from posting posters indiscriminately. The offence of posting posters on street surfaces contravened Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). The section prescribes a six months imprisonment or a fine of N90,000 for offenders.” Soon after LASAA was created, Lagos began assuming a refine outlook. Transformation was visible across the State. Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) was seen to be working. In the process, countless offenders were punished. However, there appears to be offenders that are above the law. These offenders are the politicians. Lately, going on a tour of the city, one would behold a jumble of political campaign posters of politicians. They are used to deface every street surface for example, Roads, medians, junctions and streets, etc. And this was done just to campaign during the state primary. Then what should one expect from as the general election approach? At such time, every acolyte or political sidekick often print and post posters of their preferred politicians as a display of support for them. Does Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) not apply to these class of Lagos resident? Or are the Lagos state politicians above the law? https://autojosh.com/see-how-politicians-deface-street-walls-and-surfaces-in-lagos-photos/ 1 Like 3 Shares

I get irked and irritated at the same time every time I happen upon this wanton and indiscriminate posting of bills nationwide. It is indeed an eyesore. Not forgetting the menace of sachet water and plastic bottles. We sure have a very far road to travel on as a nation. For the indiscriminate posting of bills and defacing of environmental aesthetics, curbing or prosecuting offenders should be an easy fry if indeed the agencies saddled with the responsibilities are willing to step up to the plate. If the offending poster is for a political campaign, it certainly bears the photograph, name and political party of the person culpable. If its the nonsense job adverts of "hotel job vacancy-salary 100k", finding the offender will be as easy as calling the number attached to such adverts. We simply lack the will to do things right and that's our bane as a race and nation. Enjoy my siggy 4 Likes |

I got to Lagos recently and I must say that the standard obviously deteriorated under Ambode. Those saying ambode is working obviously lost touch with the standard fashola left behind. Lagos is dirtier, okada has returned to the roads, people break traffic laws and get away with it, you dare not use BRT lane during fashola's period but everything has fallen. Potholes everywhere, the Lagos roads look as dirty as it was 10 years ago before fahsola Uncompleted and abandoned roads along airport and ikorodu. You dare not post bills anyhow in Lagos during fasholas tenure. Lagos has fallen! I repeat, Lagos has fallen Obviously, the permonace of ambode is nothing near that of fashola. Now I have no pity for ambode, he should go 9 Likes 1 Share |
