The World Bank says it “has to take some responsibility’’ for advising Nigeria and other African countries to invest more in roads, railways and energy rather than in education and health.

The World Bank President, Mr. Jim Yong Kim, made this known while briefing the media after the launch of the 2018 Human Capital Index, which ranked Nigeria 152nd out of 157 countries believed to be committed to investing in human capital.

Kim briefed the media on Thursday at the ongoing International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meeting in Bali, Indonesia. We provide quite a bit of support for Nigeria in terms of health budget. But we feel that the overall spending on health is just far too low, 0.76 per cent of GDP.

“Also, the educational outcomes in Nigeria are very very poor.

“Nigeria is one of the most important countries not only in Africa, but in the world and so we feel that it will be extremely important for Nigeria to really go on a different level altogether in terms of their commitment to investing in human capital.

“I think that the World Bank has to take some responsibility for having emphasised hard on infrastructure, roads, rails, energy for a very long time and I think that changed 20 years ago.

“But there is still then the bias that says we will invest in hard infrastructure and then when we grow rich, we will have enough money to invest in health and education.

“We are now saying that that’s really the wrong approach, that you’ve got to start investing in your people right now.’’

HCI seeks to raise awareness and increase demand for interventions to build human capital and accelerate better and more investments in people.

Kim said that through the International Development Association, the World Bank had, since 2015 increased funding for Nigeria and other African countries towards alleviating poverty.

This is why we need the likes of DR Okonjo Iweala.
Kemi Adeosun was way out of her league.

Same World Bank couldn't have got away with it when Dr Jonathan and Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala ran our country.

1. His frequent foreign trips: Buhari has traveled to more than
50 countries since he was sworn in with no economic team on board at any of those trips. ‘Wakawaka Buhari’. Baba 'Junketer-In-Chief'

2. Poor power supply: The electricity generation profile in the
country has continued to drop,
and the Nigerians are not happy
about it.

3. Continuous decline in the
nation’s economy: The exchange rate of the naira
against the US dollar has been
unstable. This has affected the
price of consumer goods,
plunging the people into more
hardship.

4. Buhari double speaks: When he visited Saudi Arabia, the
president told the Saudi King that
Nigeria would not be a part of the
Islamic Coalition against
terrorism, only to turn around and
say the country is a member in an interview with AL JAZEERA.

5. Abuse of the rule of
law: The president has been accused of flouting court orders, especially in the cases of the former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki and Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Biafra.

6. War against corruption: There have been allegations that the president is witch hunting the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, as only opposition figures are being hounded for corruption or corrupt practices.

7. Denial of campaign
promises: Many unemployed citizens were looking forward to N5,000 monthly stipends promised them by the APC and
President Buhari. But the president described the N5,000
stipend as largesse which was not on his priority list.

8. The blame game: The ruling party has continued to blame the
former president Goodluck
Jonathan for every misfortune.

Before Buhari was elected as
president, he made a lot of
promises to Nigerians. His party,
the APC promised the people ‘change’. Nigerians thought PDP-led administration had not done enough for them and
decided to try this change and majority have now regretted their decisions.

It’s being 3years since
Buhari was sworn in as president
and Nigerians are yet to feel the
change. It’s been one challenge
after the other, from painful fuel
scarcity, to poor power supply, to a fall in the value of the naira.
president.

Buhari keeps blaming the past administration for his misfortunes.

A president who does not know the meaning of economic policy, how do you expect him to handle the economic welfare of 180M people?

World bank or no world bank, we are still patiently wait for the
APC–led government to take
Nigeria to the Promised Land.

Sai baba is walking!!!

Just imagine this.

This is after Africans and Nigerian Progressives have argued against education subsidies and Healthcare for ages and encouraging building of phantom infrastructure - roads to nowhere.
