Yes,,, I've been meaning to ask,, how is my bank helping me to maintain my ATM card that's resting in my wallet undecided

And again,, how come I'm the one that pays for SMS being sent to me. How can recipients be charged for messages being sent to them . Access bank deducts money for everything, they'll send you a birthday message and still deduct money for SMS shocked

Bankers!!! Over to you.

Modified - back in the days, when you keep your money with the banks,, it increases,, but these days, deposit 10k in your account, bank will destroy the money.
SMS charges
Card maintenance
Using another ATM
etc
Before you know it,, 10k has turned to#8,980. Rendering the money almost useless for the intended purpose.
I thought I was only the one in this, I reported a lost card, they blocked it and still charge it's maintenance for more than a year.

I urge the banks to challenge this in court. This create unemployment as its from most of the charges that banks make money to pay salaries and carry out other operations.

In America and other countries there is ATM mainteaince charges for credit cards.

I condemn this move, I condemn it, I condemn it.

The thieving banks would always come up with excuses such

1. Removal of Card Maintenance Fee - They can't maintain the use of ATM beyond office hours
2. Reconfigure ATM to dispense N40k - The potential error of ATMs underpaying customers due to wear and tear of notes and machinery

cheesy cheesy cheesy ....infact kole werk grin

The Senate has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to look into the suspension of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) maintenance and withdrawal charges by banks.

This was after a motion on "illicit and excessive charges by Nigerian banks in customers accounts" was raised by Senator Gbenga Ashafa during the plenary session on Wednesday.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu seconded the motion, saying: "The ATM charge is not the only charge we get from the bank, there are VAT charges and so on; this is unacceptable. We have the Customer Protection Agency in Nigeria, but they are not living up to expectations."

The issue generated much debate on the floor of the Senate and after much deliberations, a few resolutions were made.

The Senate directed the committees on banking insurance and other financial institutions and finance to conduct an investigation into the propriety of ATM card maintenance charges in comparison with international best practices and report back to the Senate.

It also mandated the committees on banking, insurance and other financial institutions and finance to invite the CBN Governor to appear before the body in order to explain why the official charges as approved by the CBN are skewed in favour of the banking institutions as against the ordinary customers of the banks.

The lawmakers urged CBN to suspend the ATM card maintenance charges being deducted from customers accounts, just as they called on the CBN to instruct the commercial banks to configure their machines to extend to N40,000 per withdrawal, pending the outcome of the investigation by the committees.

The Consumer Protection Council was called upon to be up and doing in taking up the plight of ordinary Nigerians by looking into the various complaints of excess and unnecessary charges by Nigerian banks.

Lolz, that's how it is done, since you have ATM debit card, you will still be charged for maintenance, but when the card expires, it stops. I just hope the charges will be stopped

When did NASS assume the responsibilities of CBN? Banks are not government agencies that NASS can interfere with their operations at will.

It's CBN that supervises banks and not NASS and CBN has an act guiding it's operations.

the bank is not a charitable organization and people making noise about this charges are small people
look at it yourself from an investor point of view , buy some bank shares and at the end of the year , let the CEO come to tell u that there is no profit to share among shareholders because the profit had been used to pay for customer cost . nobody understands what it cost to run a single bank branch no matter the bank (small or big ) ATM running cost alone per month run into millions , yes u read it right millions is what it cost to maintain a single ATM machine , think of it yourself, u take a gtb card to first Bank ATM to withdraw money and your name is appearing on that machine and u were also able to withdraw money from a bank where u did not keep money , Africans did u think it is black magic that is making this to happen ? no a software company is behind it and the banks are paying this company every month , which company don't want his revenue to surpass it's cost? to keep the machine up an running 247 u need power from nepa, generator , and then battery /inverter , have u ever see the bank nepa bill? the minimum u can see for any bank (big or small )is 150k depending on how big the branch is , but that is the minimum, then generator diesel (we all know the cost) then this two can't be available forever then the battery and inverter kicks in (the inverter company get paid every single time they come to check , service, repair the inverter) then network , ATM use direct broadband , not this silly 3/4g network on your phone , (yes sometime they fail )but they are fucking fast and reliable , and not only the network company get paid , the radio company get paid too , that is u will be paying mtn and Glo and Cisco (the three combine )minimum network to run an ATM is 2 one standard and the 2nd back up once the first one fall , that's why 70% of the time the ATM is working and every 3 month the bank also pay this companies for routine maintenance, then the card itself , visa , master and verve , the bank does not own this cards, the banks pay the companies of this cards to use this cards, now the SMS alert to let u know a withdrawal ha been consummated on your account or that sweet credit alert that suddenly bring back life to your soul , the network has to be paid for (yes sometime they failed doesn't mean it was not sent) then the people that Operate the machine who comes there Monday to Sunday to clear jam reload the machine , they also get paid , when u calculate, u will see that to run a single machine is close to some millions (not single million) some millions multiply by the number of atms , who should shoulder all this cost ? if u think it is the bank then feel free to apply for ur ATM machine , it cost 17m to buy one anyway and start bearing the cost too
give everything free to your customer or u can decide to provide all this service to the bank absolutely for free
