Neymar can still make a return to Barcelona – but there chance is quite a slim one.

The Paris Saint Germain forward reports has it is unhappy at the Ligue 1 champions, and could make a return to Spain.

The deal that took the football community by surprise and twisted the transfer market prices could reverse itself.

There have once been talks on the media on Neymar’s link to Real Madrid but that was said to be untrue.

Neymar wants to leave the French capital and Barcelona are one of the few clubs that he considers moving to.

In 2020 a release clause worth €215 million activates in his contract, as revealed by Spanish newspaper Diario Sport, close to what PSG paid Barca in the summer of 2017.

One great obstacle would be the sheer humiliation for Barcelona, to come crawling back to a player who so cruelly walked away after weeks of subterfuge.

PSG and Neymar did assent a deal behind Barcelona’s back, with the player’s father pulling the wool over the club’s eyes during the tour of the United States until everything was tied up in the French capital.

Then at the beginning of August PSG struck, activating Neymar’s €222m release clause and the swap deal was done.
Ever since the player and club have been embroiled in various disputes including a legal wrangle over a €30m loyalty bonus - you read that right - which the player believed he was owed after renewing his contract in 2015.

Neymar’s exit left the team in the sway, with the deal wrapped up so late in the summer, and Barcelona were left in an unpleasant state in search for a replacement.

The ‘Catalan Giants’ pulled out a fee that could rise to €157m for Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele, who is yet to really impress at Camp Nou.

Coach Ernesto Valverde has adopted deploying Arthur in midfield instead of fielding a third forward helps the team control games that before they struggled to manage.

While re-signing Neymar would not necessarily help the coach implement a possession based game, he would obviously have a strong, positive impact at Barcelona.

The Catalan club tried and failed to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann this summer and Luis Suarez is deteriorating - perhaps even as soon as next season the Uruguayan may not be fit for purpose.

Neymar’s return will be welcomed by Lionel Messi as the Argentine is not getting any younger so needs Neymar to do the sprinting the attacking line needs.

It would be no surprise if he played an increasingly withdrawn role as time passes and he could feed balls through for the Brazilian.
Neymar, now 26, was a problem for Barcelona’s board room but was adored by his team-mates and they would be happy to have him back.
