Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has named teammate Kylian Mbappe as the player to win the 2018 Ballon D'or Award.

Mbappe was on the 30-man shortlist for the 2018 Ballon D'or released by France Football.

Barcelona Star Lionel Messi and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo have domiated the award for over a decade now.

The pair have won five each and are both keen on winning the award again this year.

However, Buffon has described Mbappe as a "phenomenonal" player who deserves to win the biggest individual prize in football.

“Mbappe is a phenomenon,” Buffon told French TV show, Tout Le Sport.

“In Italy they compare him to [Roberto] Baggio, [Francesco] Totti, [Alessandro] Del Piero, but he has talent and technical quality that I’ve rarely seen in my career.

“For his qualities, what he does on the pitch and how decisive he was at the World Cup he deserves it the Ballon d’Or. I can’t say the opposite.”

He added, “If he wants to be the best, if he retains his enthusiasm and continues to behave normally, then he can become that and stay the best for a long time.”

The 2018 Ballon d’ Or award winner will be announced on December 3, 2018 in Paris.
