The federal government has giving reason why it decided to reduce the rail speed from Abuja to Kaduna from the initial 120km/h to 90km/h. It said the reason is to avoid killing cows that pass through the rail while seeking pastures to graze on. Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi made this known while delivering a speech at the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit on Monday, October 22. The summit was organised by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Mr Amaechi pointed out that the speed rail lines is better than narrow gauge, but maintained that 90km/h should be constructed due to restrictions by cows.
