1.having a parappet wall is not suitable 4 buildings in this country.

2.having just a block higher than the conventional head-room will save your home from being stuffy.

3. increasing d level of your window will make building a lot ventilated, comfortable and well-illuminated, though some offices implore this and some smart residential buidings in lekki are considering d view on a faster rate now.

4. having an head-tank on top of building is not advisable. build it separate for the safety of the building and d inhabitant.

5. while building, make sure d septic tank is not close to the borehole, or don't allow it in higher topography so dat it wont flow into the well dug.

more of this will be let out on this series

Hmmm some interesting points here especially concerning the septic tank issue, ive heard of it but i would like to hear 1st hand from a professional.

However am an Architect and building consultant and i disagree with the parapet wall story, it is not suitable for some climatic zones of Nigeria, especially coastal zones. Well constructed Parapet walled buildings do absolutely well in the Northern part of Nigeria.

What exactly is the conventional  head-room in Nigeria? studies have shown and regulations state that 3meters height is good enough for building head-rooms for thermal comfort in Nigeria if this has been observed, Stuffiness would probably have arisen due to faulty building solar and wind orientation, lazy defenseless design features and most often bad choice of building materials.

Increasing the level of your window should enhance lighting, reduce cost on blocks but might not necessarily increase ventilation as a lot of other factors are involved in enhancing wind suction pressure into buildings, this involves specific design principles used by good Architects and not easily available or decipherable to laymen.

I agree partly with the statement in *4, due percolation of tank overflow water into slabs and other concrete members causing a saturation at some point resulting in structural weakness. However these can be controlled and prevented by following correct design, construction, material and maintenance guidelines.

Most importantly never rely on a DIY (Do it yourself ) method when it comes to designing or building complex buildings, nor should you patronise inexperienced or non professionals in a field, they would only give you incorrect or unfounded advice and cause you to over spend.   wink

thanks 4 your views expressed here, i appreciate it.

though on conventional buildings whereby we have just 12-coarses of block for bungalows are usually implemented these days, but a coarse of block added, given us 13 will make a lot difference.

tell us the process that will make overhead-tank safe while still having it on buildings.

as a professional, having hardcore on a site b4 casting your ground floor slab, does it also necessitate B.R.C wiremesh to be laid b4 casting or not? lets hear ur views.
