Following a recent report by Abia Breaking News on two exposed oil pipelines in Umunwanwa community in Umuahia South local government area of Abia state, the Chairman of the local government Hon. Obioma Ogbulafor has visited the site on a tour to assess the situation of things.

In a chat with our correspondent after the visit, Hon. Ogbulafor expressed regret that the lives of the people of the community are endangered as a result of the exposed oil pipelines which was caused by erosion menace.

"I and my team have come to a conclusion that what we saw in Umunwanwa is not a good site. It is truly a sorry situation. We are therefore appealing to the relevant agencies especially the NNPC and indeed the federal government to come to the aid of Umunwanwa community so that an impending danger, like the one we saw in Osisioma could be averted" he said.

The local government boss called on federal government to quickly intervene through the ecological fund, warning that the level to which the oil pipelines have been exposed is a serious threat to the lives of those living in the community.

He emphasised that the state government has been alerted on the situation of the oil pipelines and assured that efforts are on top gear to fix it but strongly appealed to the NNPC, the National Assembly and the federal government to intervene with the needed urgency to avoid a looming danger, adding that the state cannot afford a repeat of the Osisioma tragedy.
