Abia PDP rejects Kalu

Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has refused to admit former governor of the state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, who dumped the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, into its fold.

This was part of the decisions reached by the Abia State PDP after a meeting with the national chairman, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, yesterday.

Besides the ex-governor’s bouncing back into the PDP suffered a major set back with the development, it was gathered that the deputy governor of the state, Chris Akomas, was not allowed into the meeting venue against the backdrop that he was not yet a member of the party.

The Deputy governor had last week been received at the national secretariat of the PDP alongside Kalu.

According to the Abia PDP, Kalu’s past political activities did not go well with the party and his coming back to the PDP would negate the party’s discipline and cohesion as contained in Article 6 of the party’s constitution.

The party noted that the issues affecting the party in the state ought not to have been initiated or concluded without consultation with the state chapter, especially with regards to a state which has produced a Senate president, former national chairman, two former national secretaries as well as former ministers, all of whom are still members of the party.

The resolutions, titled “resolutions by the state executive committee and stakeholders on the state of PDP in Abia State and the attempted return of Chief Orji Uzo Kalu and other decampees to the Peoples Democratic Party” was jointly signed by the state chairman of the party, Chief Sir Ndidi Okereke and the secretary, Solomon Ogunji, among others.

According to a source at the meeting, Nwodo, who received the resolutions, however promised the state executive and other stakeholders that the resolutions and issues raised will be presented before the national working committee of the party on Wednesday for deliberation.

According to the source, “The national chairman in his response said he will henceforth transmit the Abia message which is that there must be sanctions for impunity and wrong doing by the party”.
