Erm... Aso Rock has a budget for public relations, does it not? In addition to that, there's an entire Ministry of Information and Culture, can they not disseminate information? Why have they not just taken a full-page ad to highlight achievements? What about PMB just giving a speech now and then to address the nation on the state of affairs? Internet is there, Facebook is there, Twitter is there, yet nothing meaningful has been published.

This is yet another blame game of whining: "instead of engaging the media and showcasing what we have done, we want to blame the media for not publishing what we didn't tell them."

Every single thing, PMB must blame others. So sad.

And most of the things they've done is a continuation of projects begun by other administrations (at least we'll give him credit for continuity).

You transgressed when you scrapped the lofty media chat hosted by a team of select jounalists on NTA once every month. Even jonathan you accused of corruption upheld it till his tenure ended. You had no time for nigeria. You were always on the run to get medical sustenance. Now the election are around you suddenly are too well and transfixed in nigeria complaining about your own undoing. The only man in your government i hold with respect is your deputy Osinbajo. He tends to wear his thinking cap in your absence and match words with actions.

Well said. How I wish Osinbajo will get a chance to run for President. He has demonstrated competency and compassion.

Opinionated:
By Abdulkabir Olatunji

President Muhammadu Buhari complained recently about the way he believes the Nigerian media has refused to publicise his achievements and by extension that of his government. Speaking to young political appointees in his government at a meeting with them on Wednesday in Abuja, the president expressed his dissatisfaction: ” “I’m very disappointed in the Nigerian press. They didn’t give this government the credit of the ‘Go back to the land’ programme. We have cut down the importation of rice by at least 90 per cent,” he said.

There has been a mixed reaction to this with some people saying his media aides have not done enough in the area of publicizing government programmes while others believe it is just the case of a failing president giving excuses for his failure.

However, I have another perspective on this issue which is that while the majority of the media might not be deliberately going out of its way to hide the Buhari government’s achievements, there are some underlying reasons why progress being made might be under-reported.

First, the prevalence of social media means that journalists are not immune from messages that become viral or popular. Going by patterns in the last 3 years of the Buhari administration, it is obvious that the opposition has a louder voice than the government or its supporters on social media. Hence, at least, until very recently, the messages on social media were largely anti-Buhari with the opposition, its supoorters and sympathizers making every effort to downplay the government’s achievements. Such people would argue for example that N-power is not a viable programme even when evidence suggests the opposite, the same with the government’s school feeding programme that is beginning to gain international attention. In terms of project delivery and initiation of new ones that can really drive economic growth and development like the railways and investments in electricity, there is the same tendency for the opposition inspired social media chorus to insist progress is not being made. Now, if a journalist gets immersed in all of this negativity, they may begin to subconsciously suppress the positives of this government and amplify what the opposition considers the negatives. For example, a lot of the reportage on the killings in Benue state and other states in the middle-belt has been rather unprofessional and problematic if one wants to be brutally honest. Killings in Zamfara state and the state of insecurity which was probably worse around the same time went largely underreported. A case of similar situations, different reactions by the media. Perhaps, because the Benue state situation falls into a prevailing narrative and the Zamfara situation does not.

A second reason that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government might be finding it difficult to get proper reportage on its efforts and achievements in moving Nigeria forward is the fact that a certain part of the media that has become influential especially on the Internet has defined itself by focusing on what is wrong rather than what is going right for Nigeria. Therefore, a check on the headlines promoted by some of the most popular online media in Nigeria will show that stories of scandals and misdemeanour by government officials are actively promoted rather than developmental news. The public that has been nourished on drama over the years demands no less.

Members of the media respond to this criticism by claiming they are only reporting what happens — a fair submission on the surface. However, closer scrutiny shows that the media rarely publishes negative news about itself. So, we do not read stories about how journalists collect and sometimes demand gratification when they are sent to cover events in the corporate world and government itself. One might be tempted to think that journalists have a higher moral consciousness than the rest of society, we rarely read about journalists committing crimes or being involved in scandals. Does this mean they are more disciplined than the rest of society? I opine that this is not quite so, a young journalist told me with a sentiment akin to despair recently that leading media personalities insist on molesting and abusing young women seeking to be trained or start work in the industry. How many media houses have reported this in Nigeria? Almost none.

Then there is the corruption by journalists who are available for a fee to either promote certain causes or kill certain stories. Information and misinformation has become a tradable commodity for this set of journalists and they are plenty in Nigeria.

This article is not meant to suggest that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is without its problems and blemishes — far from it. It has not always provided factual information in a suitable and timely manner. It has not done enough to engage the social consciousness of Nigerians towards responsible use and sharing of information and of course, people have a right to criticize many of its policies either because they might be bad or could be better.

Ultimately, the government and the media can do better to ensure that the news we get as Nigerians is factual and not contrived to achieve certain objectives that might not be in our collective interest as a people. The media needs to also play its part in nation building and this is not synonymous with negative news by default. There is room for criticism but there should also be equal room for reporting progress and positive ideals.

The president is complaining about the media not reporting his achievement please can anyone tell Nigerians when was the last time Buhari called for a press conference to answer questions from Nigerians. Mr. President, 3 years have gone by with your blame game, is it not time you take responsibility for once and stop the blame game. Mr. President or may I say Mr. Integrity just remember that when you point finger the rest of your finger is pointing back at you.

The Absurdity of Being a Buharist.

All-time Popular Comedians (APC) Leaders and Supporters need to re-check their thinking...
1. Buhari APC visited Obasanjo in 2015 seeking endorsement and it was OK but Atiku visits Obasanjo in 2018 they condemn it.

2. Atiku gave Buhari and APC over 5Bn in 2015 - it was okay but he spends the same amount for his primary bid in 2018 and they condemn it.

3. It was OK when Atiku gave Buhari APC his private jet to tour across the Country in 2015 but Atiku uses his private jet to tour across the Country in 2018 they condemn it.

4. When Fr Mbaka supported Buhari APC in 2015 it was okay but when Bishops Kukah, Oyedepo and Sheikh Gumi made peace between Atiku and Obasanjo in 2018 they condemn it.

5. Obasanjo endorsed Buhari in 2015 and it was okay but Obasanjo endorses Atiku in 2018 they say he is irrelevant.

6. Buhari begged for his nomination fee in 2015 and 2018, well that is OK too but Atiku paid his nomination fee with his personal money they condemn it.

7. Obasanjo got Nigeria a huge debt relief and they criticise it but are happy with Buhari's sale off if Nigeria through foreign debt and they defend and justify it.

8. Akpabio drained Akwa Ibom for 8yrs they condemned it but when he joined the APC they said he is the angel come to save Akwa Ibom from PDP misrule

9. Gov Ortom was a hero in APC but they condemned and named him killer when he left the APC

10. They said Obanikoro stole Nigeria dry but when he defected to APC he became a founding father of Nigeria and all his cases closed.

11. PDP and Jonathan were fighting Boko Haram they said it was a war against the North
# Deployment of troops was anti north and they protected the terrorists, today Buhari APC is fighting Boko Haram they are clapping hands while BH still sheds blood. They don't know the road to BBC Hausa again. Maiduguri elders forum turned deaf and dumb- # Hypocrisy.

12. They call Nigerians Lazy. They rule us by propaganda but when we expose their failures ... they call it hate speech

13. Jonathan increased fuel price they occupied Nigeria with protest but Buhari increased same they suddenly went missing

14. They said subsidy is a lie and there is nothing like subsidy, today Buhari is paying the highest subsidy and they virtually pretend they don't know

15. Late President Yar Adua was in foreign hospital Buhari criticised him, Lai Mohammed vomited all his anger. Buhari wrote that he should be impeached. Today Buhari spends more of his time in London hospital ... they justify and defend it.

16. Jonathan built Almajiri Schools they condemned it and today the same schools have been given out to soldiers for camps in the North, children are out of school and they pretend not to know as if they are just passing by.

17. The issues are endless. Somebody will tag this write up as fake news or hate speech.
Nigerians are human beings and we can reason. We decoded your plans to destroy this country with the disease called Buharinomics and we don't support that destructive plan.
This compilation is not originally mine but they're quite insightful. Change is continuous... and we're moving on.

The reason is not far-fetched.

1. The amount of decay under Buhari is times 7 more than his infrastructural achievements.

2. The amount of sufferings and hunger plus inflation under Buhari is times 10 more than his poverty/economic achievements.

3. The amount of fraud under Buhari is times 5 more than the amount his government claimed to have recovered.

4. The last but not least, the amount of lies peddled by his information minister will not allow majority of citizens believe his government even when he is telling the truth.

This niggur just said it all

I think all that have been said holds more false than truth.. If the president followed what is in his manifesto and delivered, his work would speak for it self you don't need media cos media would have no option but to publish cos the media follows trend n tend sells, even if they are paid to play down on it, the populace who have felt the impact of your work would speak out, take note of when buhari body language boosted power supply didn't everyone offline n online testify before things got back to how it was, even if that is what ur administration is able to achieve I believe by now APC would have something to capitalize on.... All other things they capitalize on now, if I should rate it effectiveness I would say 3 out of 10 cos it does not affect everyone at the same time, besides his govt is not loyal to Nigerians as a whole n ineffective enough u treat cow well than humans, u collected abacha loot instead of u to use it for a visible project which expenditure can be tracked u syphone it, ikaja loot where is it, u refuse to follow rule of law etc n u want Nigerians to be happy with u?? Y are Nigerians happy with year adua administration n y is ur administration treated different its becos u are in competent
