One of the first ever made in Nigeria toothpick has taken the market by surprise.

Paradise Toothpick, the latest brand of toothpick produced by the Cross River State Toothpick Manufacturing Company Ltd, Ekori, Yakurr Local Government Area has hit the market.

CALABAR REPORTERS learnt that the product which is an initiative of the state governor, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, is made from the finest bamboo - it is  strong, hygienically made and packaged in an environmentally friendly packaging.

According to the Managing Director, Mr. Steve Takim, the products are sold through accredited distributors who have been appointed as follows;

1. Evarite Farms and Resources Ltd., Old Parliamentary Village, Calabar (08055590024). To cover the southern senatorial district of the state, including Akwa Ibom State.

2. Madobi Pharmacy and General Merchants Ltd. (07035188961). To cover all the States in the South-East and South-South Nigeria.

3. WenWom Uka Osu Ltd., Ikom - Calabar Highway, Ugep, Yakurr LGA. (07010906412). To cover the central and northern senatorial districts of the state

Takim added that more distributors shall be appointed soon to all other parts of Nigeria and beyond.

Before the Paradise Toothpick, Nigeria have been a major importer of Toothpick and other small commodities that can be produced in the country like Pencils, Matches, Lighter and more. But, with this initiative, we hope the country turns to industrialisation, fully.

Why are our state government so myopic?? Cross River now producing toothpick, Akwa Ibom state also producing toothpick. What happened to other industries, textile, ceramic, glass, food processing/preservation??

How many people can that toothpick factory employ??
