In a bid to reverse the trend of medical tourism abroad, the Anambra State government has plans to build a world-class hospital in the State.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in his office, explained that the purpose of partnering with the Indian Medical experts was for medical tourism.
He added that it was the intention of the state government to partner with agencies to make the state the hub of medical tourism in the world, by constructing mega hospital that would offer a variety of medical services.
Dr Akabuike who explained that the plan which started since 2014, will now take effect in a bigger way.




According to him, the partnership started from a medical mission to complex surgeries in the heart and other difficult ailments, with the aim of transferring knowledge and technology, to specialists in the state.
The Commissioner added that apart from India, Anambra is partnering with J Nwilo Health Foundation from Atlanta for open heart operations at Saint Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu.
He enjoined people to avail themselves of this opportunity to be treated, explaining that much publicity had been made for the
programme.
On the upkeep of the Indian medical team, he noted that the State government was totally in charge.
