Meekdon:
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Federal Government to tighten its seat belt as yuletide approaches.

The organization alerted the government to the annual phenomenon of artificial fuel scarcity which usually reared its ugly head at the approach of the end of the year.

Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC director, in a statement on Monday said: “November is just three days away today and these agents of darkness must be somewhere now plotting to disrupt the smooth flow of supply and distribution. Their main objective is to discredit the government of the day particularly now that the 2019 election is just a stone’s throw away.

“This was the same way their powerful but corrupt godfathers in politics used the National Assembly (NASS) to ambush Buhari’s government for fear of being probed by an anti-corruption regime. They sponsored fifth columnists to take over the leadership of the NASS from the very beginning of this administration.

“It is only in Nigeria that opposition will go as far as infiltrating government’s ranks to cause havoc and make the citizens suffer. What opposition knows how to do best is to constitute clogs in the wheel of progress.

“The current opposition in particular has thrown fairplay, honour and patriotism to the winds from the very beginning of the Buhari administration. The body language has been loud and clear.

“It is therefore necessary for FG to watch out from now on. Another attempt may be made to cause artificial fuel scarcity. Those behind the move do not care about the common man.

“They do not care about hundreds of citizens who will be stranded on the roads as a result of fuel scarcity or the average Nigerian car owner who will be compelled to spend hours at fuel stations”.

MURIC also called on FG to do everything within its power to avert the looming total strike bythe Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

“Unlike the fifth columnists who are behind artificial fuel scarcity, NLC’s demand for higher pay for Nigerian workers is genuine. A strike around this time is most likely to affect both the supply and distribution of petroleum products.

“This is why FG must do everything to avert a total strike. But we appeal to labour leaders to also consider the timing. A strike that runs into the yuletide period will touch the citizens’ soft spots.

If MURIC wants an end to fuel scarcity, then deregulation IE allowing marketers to set the price of fuel and removal of subsidy is the answer.

The thing is, landing cost of fuel now is N180. Fuel at the pump is N145.

Marketers are running at a loss, so they engage in subsidy scams or scarcity scam so that they can make enough to balance their books.

NNPC too enjoy subsidy because of looting opportunities

If deregulation happens, yes we will pay 250 naira for fuel, BUT, the whole subsidies scam will end.

And investment would flow in, especially for things like refinery. NNPC would even.have cash to fix refineries and related infrastructure and people like Dangote will make a profit, pay their loans that they took to build refinery, and even build more.

And competition will eventually bring prices down like for GSM.

Oil subsidy must go
Wasn't what GEJ projected?

If you had allowed subsidy to go when Goodluck proposed it, would this have been the case?
Good bless. Many are now seeing the reality of things now

Yes, considering that I was one of those who backed subsidy removal then, and I was no PDP fan then, but a good policy must be supported regardless of who proposed it.

We already had a good example of how deregulation works in the GSM industry. In the beginning it was deregulated. Govt did not control prices.

As a result SIM. cards cost as high as 10000 naira, and people were complaining.

But because govt was not controlling prices, money flowed in, allowing GSM companies to invest in facilities, and eventually prices came down.

Nigerians unfortunately only saw price increase. Not the benefits.

First thing, I am not Yoruba and also not a Muslim. Secondly the undertone of that message speaks more of social concerns than politicking. Fuel marketers usually take advantage of festive periods to force down their demands making that period hell for nigerians. Immediately that happens, the filling station owners will start hoarding PMS..do u know y..they will hope for an eventual increase in fuel cost so that they can make more profit.. Just like buying something for 10 naira and selling for 40 naira.. After some months u heard that what u brought for 10 naira is now 50 naira...u will be glad to sell at 70 or even 100 naira.
