So I just realized this issue of restructuring has become an idea that Nigeria's political class & their followers dance around but never get around to implementing. In this forum, we will discourse the idea of restructuring from a more realistic perspective, no wishful thinking. The following questions must be answered;

Explain Nigerian Geo-Politics

What is Restructuring ?

What is Federalism in the Nigerian Context ?

Why are we evening considering restructuring in the first place; with regards to Nigerian Geo-Politics ?

Citing real examples, what are e advantages of restructuring?

Nigerian Geo Politics:

Nigeria is a federation of at least 10 major ethnic nationalities that qualify to be called countries within themselves. These 'countries' differ sociopolitically; the turmoils of 1914 till date have produced 36 States some modeled after tribal units but are however administered by a 3 tier system of government.

Executive

The president is elected through universal suffrage. He or she is both the chief of state and head of government, heading the Federal Executive Council, or cabinet.

Legislature

The National Assembly of Nigeria has two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House of Representatives is presided over by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. It has 360 members, who are elected for four-year terms in single-seat constituencies. The Senate, which has 109 members, is presided over by the President of the Senate. 108 members are elected for four-year terms in 36 three-seat constituencies, which correspond to the country's 36 states. One member is selected in the single-seat constituency of the federal capital.

Judiciary

The judicial branch consists of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court of Appeals, the High Courts, and other trial courts such as the Magistrates', Customary, Sharia and other specialised courts.[8] The National Judicial Council serves as an independent executive body, insulating the judiciary from the executive arm of government.[9] The Supreme Court is presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria and thirteen associate justices, who are appointed by the President of Nigeria on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council. These justices are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

This is an ethnic map of Nigeria.

Building Federating units around this map maybe disastrous due to the cosmopolitan nature of every State.

We can however come to a settlement. Nigeria has 36 States, if restructuring will happen,it will start with these states;

Let each State draft a constitution, this constitution should contain a list of concessions the Federal government needs to make to the State.
; roads, schools, mineral resources, security, etc & also how they intend to manage here resources and what remunerations they will make to the Federal government.

Let thes constitutions be used to appeal to the a National Assembly to pass a laws supporting these moves.

Thanks for the insight, the federal govt should only intervene in anything that affects nigeria as a whole.

Using the South West as a case study, I think the DAWN Commission should request the concession of some State govt assets; schools, roads,etc & then ask that at least 5% of the annual budget of each State be allocated to the DAWN Commission. This is a very good place to start.
