India unveils gigantic 597ft monument that's 200ft bigger than the previous record holder in China The 597 feet tall monument to India's late independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is unveiled Bronze statue will be twice the height of Statue of Liberty and 100 feet higher than current record holder The £450million construction project has taken three thousand labourers nearly five years to complete The world's tallest statue has been unveiled in India after nearly five years of construction. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 597ft tall statue of India's late independence leader Sardar Vallabbhai Patel on the bank of the Narmada river in Kevadia, in the western state of Gujarat. The towering bronze monument, called 'Statue of Unity', is almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty and nearly 100 feet higher than the current record holder, China's Spring Temple Buddha.
