Barely 24-hours after a young man completed his jail term, he went back to commit a similar crime that led to his earlier conviction.

The suspect, Kingsley Chukwu, had alongside his accomplice, now at large, dispossessed a commercial motorcycle rider of his bike, after throwing him into a state of unconsciousness.

According to a press statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, a distress call was received by Onipanu Police Division in Otta on the incident, following which the DPO, SP Sangobiyì Johnson, led his Anti-Crime men to the scene of crime at Divine Wisdom Community in Iyesi area of Otta.

"With the complimentary efforts of the Community Development Association (CDA), the operatives combed the entire area and succeeded in the apprehension of Chukwu, while his accomplice escaped. Further search led to the recovery of the snatched Honda motorcycle", the PPRO said.

Oyeyemi also said, "On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and his fleeing accomplice pretended as passengers when they stopped the okada man, and they hit him on the head with a sharp object which made him to be unconscious, before they dispossessed him of the motorcycle. He further disclosed that he had once been convicted for a similar offence for which he just came out of prison. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is responding to treatment".

Prisons are met for correction but Nigeria prisons is the opposite. We need a prison reform in Nigeria.

No need to go to court again. Existing protocol duely extended.Period.

Prisons are supposed to reform criminals. Ours makes them more hardened. Rather than being remorseful, ex-convicts are either out for revenge or getting more sophisticated to commit more crimes. Every thing appears wrong with this nation.God save Nigeria.

He probably stole it for business and survival. Our prisons don't pay attention to these guys, they don't rehabilitate them.
They don't train them before releasing them back into the society so they go back to crime which is the only way they know to survive.
