2019 General Election: Voters Register For South East by business75: 4:07pm On Nov 06, 2018
The elections are here. From November 18th, 2018 the campaigns will begin with 2019 presidential and National Assembly election. And later by December 1st the Governorship and state house of assembly will commence.

So, how prepared are you to vote? Well, that's not even my topic for today. I'm reviewing the voters' register. And I'm looking at that of the south-east geopolitical zone. Here is how they stand.

Abia - 1,481,191 voters
Anambra - 1,758,220 voters
Ebonyi - 876,249 voters
Enugu - 1,301,185 voters
Imo - 1,611,715 voters

According to INEC register, the total registered voters in the five states that make up the south-east (Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Imo) is 7,028,560. That almost like the same registered voters for Lagos, alone, which is at 6,247,845.

Although, some would argue that Lagos is more than 10 states combined. But the question with south-east is that it's the region with the least number of registered voters. And that is not a good position for a region that is clamouring for restructuring.

However, what is surprising is that the number of registered voters in Enugu is less than Abia. By population, Enugu state has 3,267,837 people, while Abia is 2,845,380. So, how did Enugu fall short in the number of registered voters?

And if you now consider the fact that less than 50 per cent of registered voters voted in 2015 general elections, cast aspersions on this figure. How many votes would the entire eastern region cast at the 2019 election?

I think Enugu contributed largely to the low voter's register count for the south-east. But to think of it, the south-east has the largest number migration in the country. In a recent report flying across the internet suggest that the south-east voters in other states collectively are over 25,000,000.

If that is true, that makes the south-east region a key factor in this election. But since that is not a statistical evidence, I will leave that thought to the imagination.

Finally, achieving a perfect election campaign for the south-east will require more than the offer for restructuring. The candidates must soothe the pain of the electorate. This campaign must have an emotional feeling for the south-east voters.

Fastweb Internet is offering a unique campaign strategy for reaching voters through their mobile phones. And beyond stomach infrastructure, another approach that will work is 'emotional infrastructure'. Fastweb works with candidates to contact voters directly through voice calls. Imagine reaching millions of voters through their phone either by voice call or simple text messaging. http://www.fastweb.com.ng/robocall-Campaign
