Peter Obi, the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opined why the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is not talking about the economy of the country as the nation approaches the 2019 general election.

Mr Obi, a former Anambra governor, said the APC was talking about every other thing apart from the economy because the party has failed manage the financial resources of the country.

He is widely known for his managerial skills which boasted the financial resources of Anambra State. During his reign, workers were paid salaries and on time in addition to massive infrastructural developments in the state.

Obi's pair with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, is widely seen as a move to return the economy to its earlier state.

"From all indicators, our economy is failing," the former governor said on Twitter Friday morning.

"This is why the APC is talking about everything but the economy. Our people are hungry - they don’t need more failed promises and rhetoric," Obi added.

Since the return to democracy in 1999, the PDP has been piloting the affairs of the country until in 2015 when it lost the presidential seat to the APC.

At the time PDP held sway, the economy of the country was rated top both in the continent and in the world, mostly depending on oil for survival.

When President Muhammadu Buhari, of the APC, took over from his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, of the PDP, the incumbent Nigerian leader ran the affairs of the country for six months without a finance minister. His action, economists speculated, must have been the reason the country's economy was plunged into recession.

Although his action is said to have contributed to failing economy, the price of oil deflated when he took over.

The APC has continually blamed the opposition PDP for woes that has befell its administration.

The ruling party based it accusations on alleged mass looting of the country's resources saying it met almost an empty treasury, a claimed that has been debunked by Mr Jonathan on several occasions.

Buhari and the apc are not after the revamping of our economy, rather they are after depleting our collective wealth. 2019 Nigerians want the apc gone from government.

Apc government knows they are failures especially in the area of the economy, that is why they keep distracting people from talking about it by raising issues that has impact on our economy or our country.
