Nasir El-rufai, governor of Kaduna State, has said the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, is not fit for the position.

Mr El-rufai stated this in his latest attack on Mr Obi, a two term former governor of Anambra State.

The governor had earlier described the former governor as an ethnic bigot yesterday.

POLITICS TIMES recalls the feud between the duo dates back to 2014 during the state governorship election that produced the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano, who is currently serving his second term.

Obi who served his two term handed over to Obiano on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

During the 2014 governorship election, El-rufai had stormed the state to solidarize with the then APC governorship candidate, Chris Ngige.

When the Kaduna governor stormed the state, he was detained by operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) who prevented him from going out on the election day. According to the El-rufai he was in the state to monitor the exercise.

Obi had at the time justified the detention of the Kaduna governor, querying the motive behind the visit.

Reawakening old wounds on Friday, El-rufai described Obi as an ethnic intolerant while reacting to a publication on the online version of a national daily.

“Peter Obi is a tribal bigot,” his tweet partly read.

The tweet generated reactions from Nigerians including Senator Shehu Sani, who said El-rufai was more iniquitous than Obi.

Religious clashes in Kaduna which pitches a section of faith against another are often speculated to have the backing of the governor.

“An ethnic bigot is a lesser evil than a divisively religious one,” Sani tweeted.

Not backing down despite the outrage, El-rufai on Saturday said Obi was not qualified to emerge the presidential candidate of the PDP in a tone that seems he is sure the opposition party was going to win the 2019 general election.

“Any person that doesn’t recognize the human right of every citizen to move freely, live and work in any part of Nigeria, but implies that though foreigners can observe elections in his state, other Nigerians may only do so in their states of origin is not fit to be VP of Nigeria!” the governor governor tweeted.

Efforts by POLITICS TIMES to get the reaction of the VP candidate of the PDP was unsuccessful.

Why calls placed to his media aide, Valentine Obienyem, rang unanswered, text messages sent were yet to be responded to as at press time.
