Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi is unhappy over news making the rounds among Nigerian fans, that he is not showing commitment playing for the national team. The Eagles captain has been away from national duty shortly after the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Nigeria will face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 17, as both teams engage in an Afcon 2019 qualifier. And in the first leg between both sides, played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, South Africa defeated Nigeria 2-0. Mikel Obi said he keeps in touch with Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr asked to be excused from both games (against South Africa and Cranes of Uganda). Obi was asked to be left out of both matches due to fitness issues. But many have raised questions over his commitment to the team, considering the fact that he is yet to play in any of the team’s three games, since after Russia 2018. In a chat with Owngoalnigeria through his intermediary, Babawo Mohammed, the Tianjin TEDA midfielder said he will make his retirement official when he has taken the decision to bow out. “The doubts over his commitments got to him because he adores playing for the Super Eagles and as a captain he wants to be a shining light for the young players in the team. “If Mikel is no longer interested in playing for Nigeria he will make an official announcement but for now it’s due to injury. People should understand his commitment and love for the Super Eagles. He will no doubt support them to qualify for the cup of Nations because he wants to play and lift it again with the Super Eagles”, Mohammed said. Mikel Obi has never been an offensive midfielder....Nigeria used him all along in the wrong position. ###you can't give what you don't have#### |
