The annual JS1 National Common Entrance Examination conducted by the National Examination Council for pupils in primary 5 or 6 is highly competitive and many pupils fail to secure admission due to poor preparations.

Introduction:
The National Common Entrance Examination is made up of two papers; Paper I and Paper II

Paper I
The paper I is called Achievement Test. It comprises of Part A; Mathematics and Basic Science and Part B; English Studies and Social Studies.

Paper II
The paper II is called Aptitude Test. It comprises of Part A; Quantitative Aptitude and Vocational Aptitude and Part B; Verbal Aptitude.


Subjects Structure
The subjects structure for National Common Entrance Examination are in line with the newly revised Middle Basic Education Curriculum for Primary 4 to 6 as released by the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC). Summary of themes covered in each subject are highlighted below:
